A typical scenario:

A student scoring 95% in his boards  and has been an all rounder throughout, he performs  exorbitantly well in his academics . He chooses to get through his dream Delhi University.  The cut-off list is declared  and to his surprise he does not make it through the top five colleges for Eco(H).

A  Common Scenario:

A student does extremely well academically  , scores a 98 % in his best of four subjects in class 12th and despite the fact that he has aced the top colleges of D.U he does not take admission in those colleges, instead he  works  towards his dream and gets through the best college  for  fashion designing which is NIFT Delhi. Maybe because his dream is to become a fashion designer  and probably having a creative mind he wants to utilize it to the maximum.

Lets understand….

Often we have seen  that right after  12th boards are over , there is a great rush where students are  running to colleges for admissions and each one having a dream to get through the top most colleges of Delhi University. We often see students losing hope just because they did not get through the college of their choice or maybe just because they did not breakthrough the cut-off lists. But how many of us have really explored beyond Delhi University. NONE to my knowledge.  Everybody just targets Delhi University maybe because it is considered to be the most renowned University in India. But in this madness  what if you don’t score a 98% and that being the cut-off for  Eco(H) in a college of your choice like LSR, JMC, SRCC etc. Then what will you do?

Will  you  COMPROMISE ?

Certainly not, why choose a college over a course or a course over a college. Each one of us has a dream to get the best but we should at the same time keep in mind that our dreams shouldn’t end with Delhi University.

Let’s see what a students told us after he got through his dream college.

IHM was a basic-level course that familiarised me with four operational departments of a hotel viz kitchen, food and beverage, housekeeping and front office. A student can learn about these core areas and before the course ends decide which one to specialise in,” says Suri, who is now executive Sous Chef at the Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts in Chanakyapuri. I am happy I chose IHM over any college in D.U.”

Another student who saw brighter prospects after finishing a professional course instead of joining Delhi University is Reeti Khanna. “The BBA programme at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) Delhi, helped me understand the workings of various sectors in management and business administration such as finance and Human Resources. It sharpened my managerial skills through presentations, case studies, seminars etc that helped me perform better at work. Our professors were among the best in the field and the curriculum was very refined. I also got opportunities to organise events. My internship at the Industrial Finance Corporation of India (IFCI), a financial consultancy, where I was part of the corporate advisory group, was another plus,” says Khanna.

These success stories are testimonies to the fact that you should not despair if you haven’t made it to DU. There are a whole lot of exciting options for you out there. It is always good to pursue your dreams but not at the cost of your career.
Making a career does not primarily depend on the college or university you study in. It is more to do with what you study in the making of your career.
