In a response to countrywide appeal for humanitarian support and lending a small helping hand to the victims of recent Kedarnath disaster, students of Dehradun Institute of Technology (DIT) University, Dehradun had donated an amount of Rs. 1 lakh towards Chief Minister Relief Fund.
The incessant rain that hit Uttarakhand from June 14 triggered flash floods and landslides, leading to thousands of deaths, while thousands more were missing. Relief measures were taken by the govt to rescue the people from affected areas.
Countrywide appeal was made to contribute towards the victims in Uttarakhand. Many NGOs, rescue groups are still in their operation to help the people. Different social groups were united to raise funds for Uttarakhand victims of 2013. Donation camps were set up to help the flood victims.
Different Universities, colleges were also gave their share towards Uttarakhand. Keep it in mind DIT University was requested the students, parents, teaching and non-teaching staffs to contribute as their wish to the victims. Donation was not mandatory it was voluntary.
University Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. B.V. Babu and Registrar, Captain Ajay Swarup along with the students handed over the cheque of Rs. One Lakh, contributed by students, parents, teachers and non-teaching staff to Chief Minister, Vijay Bahuguna. Lauding the efforts of the students, Chief Minister highlighted the need to have feelings of sympathy and compassion towards the victims of tragedy and urged them to continue supporting such causes.
