I am a clueless warrior, sans my armour, engaged in a battle. I am bombarded from all sides with queries, pressure and advice. Flummoxed, I look around for a shield.
Various courses. Numerous colleges. The humongous responsibility on our shoulders to pick one is proving to be pretty daunting. Every morning, I wake up with the same dilemma in my head. The course of the day is spent researching the courses, looking up the syllabus, finding out about the scope, career opportunities, etc. I go to bed with the same quandary.
Those of who you think that life after faring well in Boards is a bed of roses are hugely mistaken. Once you surpass the exorbitant benchmarks set by your peers, teachers and family, you are automatically expected to pursue the most popular course in the most popular college, with mostly no heed being paid to your wishes
.
Here is a nugget of my conversation with my neighbour the other day:
Le Neighbour: “95% aayi hai? Ab toh Stephens hi jaoge.”
Le me: “Nahi, mera choice of course nahi hai wahan.”
Le Neighbour: “Toh kya hua? Naam pe jao, brand value hai uski.”
Why should I follow in the footsteps of all those Chintus and Buntys who never even dared to dream beyond the path that their parents drew out for them even before they had learned their A,B,Cs.?
Fortunately for me, at the end of the day, it is going to be my call. I am ready to face the peril and plunge into what I want to do. You Only Live Once- the concept of YOLO isn’t to go smoke and drink. It is to go out and do something with your life that matters. And that is exactly what I have in mind.
