On April 27, 2015, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had put all the anticipation to an end by publishing the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2015 results on their official website. This year, a student from Pune named Sankalp Gaur topped the coveted entrance exam with an impressive score of 355/370.

Nearly 12.5 lakh students appeared for the national level engineering entrance examination, which was conducted in both offline and online mode on April 4 and April 10-11 respectively.

However, top 1, 50,000 candidates are going to be eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced 2015 Exam, to secure admissions in the prestigious IITs and ISM Dhanbad. The 16 IITs have around 10000 undergraduate seats available for admissions this year.

As per CBSE, a candidate can appear for JEE Main up to a maximum of three times. So, aspirants who were not able to crack the exam in the first attempt can still appear for it next year.

Have a back-up plan!

The remaining candidates, who have been unable to make it to the eligibility criteria to appear for the JEE Advanced exam, will now have to brace themselves for the next available options such as NIT, IIIT, and such other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTI).

There is no denying that IITs are one of the finest institutions offering engineering and technical programmes in India, but there are many other good engineering colleges that offer opportunities to learn and offer good placements to its students. Let’s have a look at some interesting facts below;

  • Two Indians have been chosen to head 2 companies from the Fortune 500 list. Satya Nadella now heads Microsoft and Rajiv Suri Heads Nokia and they both pursued their engineering degree from Manipal Institute of Technology, India.
  • E Sreedharan, the metro man of India completed his civil engineering from Government Engineering College, Kakinada (Now Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University), and joined the Indian Engineering Services.
  • Chandra Mohan, who co-founded Punjab Tractors pursued his B. E. Mechanical from Punjab Engineering College.
  • Phanindra Sama, a BITS Pilani alumnus co-founded India's largest online bus ticket and hotel booking company, redbus.in.

So, if you think that you have the attributes and personality of an engineer and are willing to give your best efforts, make the right choice in terms of the engineering college and more importantly in terms of the branch of engineering that you are best suitable for. If you have it in you then even if you do not make to an IIT, you can still do very well in your life.
