No,no! These aren’t the descriptive indicators of an invalid person, but my condition after the implementation of the DU four year program. I recently attended the DU open session, and it failed to dispel my apprehensions.
Despite protests from all quarters, DU has decided to go ahead with the reforms Hassled implementation is only one of the many flaws of this program. Students and teachers both seem to be at sea, regarding the reforms.
Undergraduation apparently sculpts our entire future; the changes in the course content for this program were made in just one month. Ironic much?
Albeit we are asked to choose streams after class tenth, under the four year program we will have to study 11 foundation courses ranging from maths, science, public health et al. Why a humanities student should be compelled to dabble in maths and science at the undergraduate level is beyond me!
Apparently DU endeavours to create students adept in various fields. But in my opinion, this system would create students proficient in none.
Also, the system seems to promote drop outs by offering multiple exit options.
The rationale given to us is that this system will bring us at par with the international education system and benefit students going overseas. Reality check: Merely 2% of Indian students can afford to go abroad to study.
Despite so many Achilles heels, DU is going ahead with these reforms, in the process severely diluting the quality of education.
If you ask me, this system spells trouble.
