Delhi University’s much anticipated Student Union Elections, DUSU, is going to be held on September 9, 2022 for a total of 4 seats. The university has announced September 1 as the last date for candidates to file their nominations and September 3 as the last date to withdraw nominations.
As per the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) voting schedule released by the university, students of morning colleges will vote between 8:30am to 12:30pm while evening colleges’ students will vote between 3pm to 7pm. However, DU is yet to announce the schedule for vote counting consisting of its day, date and time.
Delhi University’s Vice Chancellor, Yogesh Tyagi has also appointed a team of professors for smooth conduct of DUSU elections 2022-17. The team consists of the following members-
- D S Rawat (Department of Chemistry) as Chief Election Officer
- Rajesh Tandon (Department of Botany) as Chief Returning Officer
- Pinki Sharma (Faculty of Law) as Returning Officer for Conduct
- Meena Panickar (Faculty of Law) and Abha Shukla (Faculty of Commerce) as additional team members.
However, few colleges under Delhi University have their own student union and thus, conduct separate college-based elections. The VC has appointed principals of such colleges and the heads of such institutes as the Election Officer for smooth conduct of polls.
In 2015, RSS-supported Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) won all four seats in DUSU elections by defeating Congress aided National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and AAP-affiliated Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS).
