Delhi University (DU) colleges hike fees

Studying at Delhi University just got expensive. Most of the city colleges have ordered between 7% and 10% increase in fee and with the introduction of the four-year undergraduate courses this academic session, the hike is going to pinch more.

A student of humanities at St Stephen’s College will now pay Rs. 22,435 annually as opposed to Rs. 19,925 last year. The annual fee for

Lady Shri Ram College’s four-year journalism course, the priciest programme on offer in the college, will be Rs. 24,080 as opposed to Rs. 19,760. Shri Ram College of Commerce has effected an across the board hike of Rs. 1,000 per annum.

The new fee structure is for freshers but a nominal hike for students of other classes can’t be ruled out in the coming days. Colleges do revise fee from time to time but the four-year course has now made an under-graduate course fairly expensive.

Six years back, a bachelor's degree in humanities would cost between Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 7,000 in most colleges, with science courses a touch more expensive. Now, a four-year humanities course can cost as much as Rs. 1 lakh.

Miranda House and Hindu College have left fee untouched. Hindu remains among the most affordable of the university colleges. The annual fee is still between Rs. 7,000 and Rs. 8,500.

Students at off-campus colleges such as Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College and Rajdhani College will now pay 10% more annually.
