The School of Open Learning (SOL), formerly known as The School of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education, was formed under the University of Delhi in 1962. SOL is the oldest open and distance centres in India.
SOL was started with the modest admission of 900 students which has now reached to 150,000 students approximately every year. However, all the 77 regular colleges under DU offer around 54000 seats annually.

School of Open Learning (SOL) is the best call for those who want to have a degree from Delhi University despite their low percentage or those who need to work but wish to continue their education.
According to the SOL Director H.C. Pokhriyal, “There is no difference between the degree that is awarded by any of the Varsity’s 77 colleges and the one that is awarded by SOL” in addition to that he said “it is the “window of hope” for the students who are willing to have a degree from DU but couldn’t meet the required cut-offs for regular colleges of Delhi University”.

Gone are the days when students have to wait in the long queues and crowded corridors in admission season. SOL has now upgraded systematised admission procedure that takes approx. 20 minutes for the aspirants to secure admission to SOL. As per Mr Pokhriyal, over 65000 students were admitted to SOL last year, amidst anarchy and chaos.
Hustle-bustle atmosphere at SOL admission counters
But now SOL has updated students’ data from school boards so that if someone submits the application, the registrar will be able to verify his/her details. If the applicant is eligible, a printed receipt will be given within 20 minutes.
In the terms of availability of online information, the SOL team is way better than Delhi University’s regular colleges. Students can now download the prospectus and form from the new website of SOL - sol.du.ac.in. Students can also check the availability of degree courses, exam results and can also request for change of address.
Updated website of SOL having multiple services
From this year onwards, SOL is also providing study material to first-year students at the time of admission to avoid any delay as occurs usually which is the key point from the perspective of students and varsity as well.
