Day 1 of CAT 2013: Quant Section Difficult, Verbal Easy

As the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2013 kicks off, we bring you the first reaction of students who appeared for the examination in the morning session on Day 1.

According to students, Quant turned out to be the toughest section while Verbal was the easiest segment in the paper. Overall, the exam was moderate to difficult.

Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation: Analysis

Most of the questions in the Quant section were from Geometry and Algebra. There was also a variety of other questions from topics like Arithmetic, Trigonometry, Functions, Mensuration, Time Speed & Distance etc. 

In many students question set, Number Systems as well as Permutation & Combination were not present. The questions in Data Interpretation area consisted of Pie Chart and Caselets.

Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning: Analysis

In the Verbal Ability area, students saw questions on Reading Comprehension, Para Jumble, Vocabulary, Error correction in paragraph, identifying the Out of Context sentences.

On the other hand, the Logical Reasoning part turned out to be lengthy and tricky. It was also observed that one of the questions in LR was similar to CAT 2012 paper.

According to students, the difficulty level of CAT 2013 is still on the tougher side.

The Common Admission Test (CAT) for admission to the prestigious IIMs (Indian Institutes of Management) and other leading B-schools of India started yesterday (October 16, 2013).

It will be carried out over a period of 20 days till November 11, 2013.

Prometric India, which conducts the computer-based test in association with the IIMs, has confirmed that a total of 4,066 candidates took the exam across the country on Day 1.
