About CSIR UGC NET:
The National Eligibility Test or NET is a national level entrance examination for postgraduate aspirants who seek to qualify in PhD research and also for the candidates who wish to pursue teaching jobs at Universities in India. The test for Arts and Humanities discipline is conducted by University Grants Commission (UGC) while for the Science and Engineering disciplines it is conducted by CSIR and UGC jointly.

Eligibility criteria for CSIR UGC NET 2012:
The subjects of CSIR UGC NET 2012 are Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Physical Sciences. A candidate needs to fulfill the following criteria to be eligible for the test.
- All the candidates should have a degree under the subjects mentioned above.
- Candidates with BS-4years/BE/BTech/BPharma/MBBS/Integrated BS-MS/MSc or equivalent degree with a minimum aggregate of 55% for general and OBC and 50% for SC/ST, physically/visually handicapped.
- Candidates enrolled for M.Sc or having 10+2+3 years of qualification can also apply for the Test under RA (Result Awaited) in subjects mentioned above during the academic Session 2011-2012.
- Candidates appearing under RA category need to submit the attestation format (given at the reverse of the application form) certified by the Head of the Deptt./Institute over his/her signature and rubber stamp (with address and name) from where the candidate is appearing or has appeared in the final year(Last Semester where Semester system is there) M.Sc. or equivalent degree examination.
- These candidates shall be admitted to the Test provisionally. They shall only be considered eligible for JRF-(NET)/LS-(NET), if they are able to produce the proof of having passed the Master’s Degree examination in the relevant or related subject with the requisite percentage of marks within two years.
- The age limit to appear for JRF is 19 years to 28 years as on 1st July 2012. The upper limit is relaxed up to five years for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer), physically/visually handicapped and female candidates.
- There is no upper age limit for LS.
- PhD degree holders who had passed Master’s degree before 19th September 1991 is 50% can only apply for lectureship.

Syllabus for CSIR UGC NET 2012:
- The test is divided into three parts A, B and C. The syllabus has been mentioned below as per the division:
- Part A shall be common to all subjects including Engineering Sciences. The part contains questions pertaining to General Aptitude with emphasis on logical reasoning, graphical analysis, analytical and numerical ability, quantitative comparison, series formation, puzzles etc.
- Part B shall contain subject-related conventional Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) covering the topics given in the syllabus.
- Part C shall contain higher value questions that will test the scientific concepts and application of the scientific concepts. The questions shall be of analytical nature.
- There will be negative marking for wrong answers.
How to apply for CSIR UGC NET 2012:
Candidates can apply for CSIR UGC NET 2012 either through online or offline mode:
Offline mode:
Candidates can apply for CSIR UGC NET by obtaining the information bulletin and application form from Indian or Oriental Bank of Commerce.
- The application form can be obtained by paying a fees of Rs400 for general candidates, Rs 200 for OBC candidates and Rs 100 for SC/ST, Physically handicapped (PH) or Visually handicapped (VH).
- The information bulletin and application form can also be obtained from Value Payable Post from the Indian Bank, 3/1, West Patel Nagar, New Delhi 110008 by sending across a Demand Draft for Rs 400, 200, 100 (as per the relaxation of fees for reserved categories) drawn in favour of ‘Indian Bank, West Patel Nagar, New Delhi’ payable at Delhi.
- A candidate needs to send a request to the bank with two self-addressed slips for the information bulletin and application form to be delivered.
- The candidate should mention his/her name, address, date of birth, date of examination and subject code on the back of the demand draft.
- The bank will only accept any request from 21st August to 10th September 2012.
Online mode:
- Students need to fill the online application form.
- The candidates need to download a challan performa and deposit the fee at Indian or Oriental Bank of Commerce.
- After filling the online application form candidates need to take the printout, paste his/her black and white passport size photograph, sign at the given space, attach requisite certificates and send it along with the challan copy in an envelope super scribed with subject code, centre code and medium code to Sr Controller of Examination, Human Resource Development Group, Examination Unit, CSIR Complex, Library Avenue, Pusa, New Delhi-110012.
- The form should reach the CSIR Complex before 24th September 2012 (1st October 2012 in case of remote areas).
