While a number of Delhi University colleges are coming out with their fifth cut-off list in the muchsought subjects such as economics and commerce, the exodus of candidates to other colleges to opt for the course of their choice continues.

Admissions to commerce are still open in over 24 colleges.

The dip in percentages, however, has been not very significant. Many colleges have brought down the required percentage by 0.25% only.
Hansraj College, which lost a number of candidates to Hindu College last week, issued its fifth cut-off list in English. Kamla Nehru College (KNC), which reopened admissions in English, may also see some withdrawals if applicants move to Hansraj College.

“We had closed admission in English in the first list but some colleges declared a second list for popular subjects and we witnessed withdrawals. Now, we have to reopen admission in the fifth list as well, even though we don’t have many vacant seats. While applicants are taking admission, we are also seeing withdrawals. We may have to come out with another list to fill all the seats,” said Sanam Khanna, who teaches English at KNC.

On the other hand, many colleges are finding it difficult to fill seats for the reserved categories. Less number of students with disabilities have applied against the total number of seats available in colleges.

This is also the first time that colleges have conducted admissions for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories. “We do not want to drop the cut-off drastically as there will be over admissions. We can go up to the 10th cut-off to fill all the seats,” said an official at Hindu College.
