The Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) conducts the Combined Medical Services Exam (CMSE) to recruit medical experts to central government jobs like Railways, Ordinance Factories, Government Health Services, Central Health Services and Municipal Corporation of Delhi and others.
Besides CMSE, UPSC conducts the Civil Services exam for IAS, IPS, IFS etc officers, Engineering Services Examination for Engineers to work in Central Government jobs, CDS exam for Defence Personnel, Special Class Railway Apprentice's Exam and Section Officers/ Stenographers Limited Departmental Competetive Exam.
Eligibility Criteria to Apply for Combined Medical Services Examination 2012
- Should be a citizen of India or persons of foreign countries (select countries) who had migrated to India before 1962 with the intention of settling down.
- Age should not be more than 32 years as on January 1, the year of the exam. A relaxation in age is available to ST/ ST/OBC candidates as notified by the government from time to time.
- Candidate should be an M.B.B.S (Written & Practical). Final year students of MBBS as well as interns are also eligible to apply on submission of proof of completion of internship by the end of written exam.

Exam Format & Selection Procedure for Combined Medical Services Examination 2012
The written test for Combined Medical Services Examination 2012 consists of two written papers comprising of 250 marks each (total 500).

The second stage of the exam is the Interview & personality Test. Those who clear the written exam are called for the interview, which carries 100 marks.
Fees for Combined Medical Services Examination 2012
- Rs. 100 remitting the money in any branch of SBI by cash or using the net banking facility of SBI, State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Travancore or by using Visa/ Master Credit/ Debit Card.
- All female candidates and SC/ ST/ Physically Disabled candidates are exempted from payment of fees. OBC candidates, however, have to pay the amount in full.
