Well, college is about to begin. And with it, the promise of a new life. The period of a lazy life, which we had been living since school got over, ends.
Upon a slight contemplation, I realised that this is the best time to re-invent yourself!
Obviously the discipline of school life will be lesser.
With the school uniform no longer in the picture, we have given our wardrobes a requisite revamp. Why not do the same with our personalities? From my own personal experience, I can say this: you can't shed the image you have in your school. No doubt, each year in school you set out with the noblest intention, of may be starting to love studies, or becoming a basketball champion, or the nightingale or for that matter making new friends. The recluse must have tried to become social, and the extrovert must have tried to sew his lips. But no matter what, there's always been a pre-conceived notion of yourselves against which you were compared when and if you behaved in an altered way.
Therefore college is the best place to start doing what you love to do, to start behaving the way you want to, to carry yourself the way you are most "yourself".
Don't treat it as any other year. It is a golden chance to re-invent yourself.
This reminds me of an article by Seema Goswami I read 2 years back. Here's an excerpt.
"And then came college, with an even bigger opportunity to completely recast your image. There you were, just another unknown in a cast of anonymous hundreds. Nobody really knew anything about you. The professors had no clue what you were good or bad at. Your classmates didn’t have any pre-conceptions about you, nor you about them. As for the smattering of old school friends still around – they were just as keen to re-invent themselves and hence were content to give you a wide berth.
So, here was the chance of a lifetime: to be whatever you had ever dreamt of becoming.
The class nerd could have a personality transplant and become the mainstay of the debating society. The mousey little girl with spectacles and braces, who always sat at the back of the class in school hoping desperately that no one would notice her, could get a makeover and become the star of the college’s drama division. The sports captain could flower into a writer; the swot could blossom into a singer; the class idiot could discover a sudden talent for photography."
As my fellow CJ and friend Jasmine notes, "Get to know yourself, your passion and talents: Here is an advice that not many people would give you, but it might just prove pretty important. College life is going to be a fresh start for your future years, which makes it important to start off on the right foot. Why not acquaint yourself to your talents and passions and utilize them to your fullest? "
