The HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the CBSE board will meet at the end of the month and a proposal is said to be passed making Class 10 board exams compulsory for all students, starting the next academic session.
Javadekar also added that the Human Resource Development Ministry is working on an amendment to the Right to Education Act (RTE). He said that the law ministry has already approved the proposal and it would come to the cabinet shortly.
The minister said that the CBSE Board meeting will be held this month and from the 2022-18 academic session; the board examinations will again be compulsory for all students. Although 23 million students in India take various state board and CBSE examinations every year, Javadekar expressed his concern for the 2 million that do not and said it was unfair for these students.
Under the present norms, CBSE students can opt between the Board examination or school-based examination. On RTE amendment, Javadekar said that once it is approved by the cabinet, it will go to the Parliament.
The HRD minister feels that even if the proposal is referred to a standing committee, the CBSE board will have the amendment by April.
