CBSE likely to make UGC the NET Conducting Body Again

The recent reports suggest that Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is likely to make University Grants Commission (UGC) the conducting body for the National Eligibility Test (NET). CBSE had taken over the responsibility to conduct NET on June, 2014.

The shift is responsibility was done primarily because it was felt that UGC was not fully equipped to handle a national level examination.

Following the decision, CBSE delivered its first attempt at conducting NET on December 28, 2014. CBSE conducted NET in 89 NET coordinating institutions across India.

CBSE is packed with the responsibility of conducting important examinations like the class Xth Board Examinations and Class XIIth Board Examinations. In addition to these, CBSE is responsible for conducting prestigious All India Level Exams like Joint Entrance Examination 2015 (JEE Main 2015) and All India Pre- Medical/ Pre- Dental Entrance Test 2015 (AIPMT 2015).

Shouldered with the responsibility of conducting such eminent All India Level examinations, CBSE finds it difficult to incorporate another exam NET in its kitty. Hence, there are chances that UGC will again be made the NET conducting body in the times to come. CBSE has sent a in a written response to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) stating the issues that they are encountering.

However, these are just reports and an official statement from CBSE is still awaited.
