To help students breathe a sigh of relief and feel a little easy, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced to scale down the difficulty level of math paper at 12th level. The difficulty level of mathematics will be scaled down from the next year onwards.
The decision was taken after the unusually tough math’s paper this year drove millions of students to tears and had a considerable impact on their final scores. The announcement came on August 10, 2022 late evening and CBSE announced to revamp the paper’s pattern with an addition of short answer type questions carrying two marks and reducing the number of controversial High Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) questions.
The HOTS questions will now carry only 10 marks and will be in two sections of six and four marks. With this, the CBSE is contemplating to give students more chances. The move is welcomed by teachers and students. As per them, HOTS questions carried the substantial weitage and were responsible for raising the difficulty level of the paper.
As per the students and teachers, HOTS questions are tricky and were considerably tough for the last two years. They welcomed the news of restricting HOTS questions to 10 percent now. On the other hand, short answer type questions will make question paper easier now. This is the first time that board has introduced 2 marks questions, which will enable students to invest less time in solving them and complete their paper on time.
As per the new CBSE pattern, the question paper has been categorized 20 percent easy, 60 percent average and 20 percent difficult. This will help students who rely on Math to boost their score at the intermediate level, which is crucial to take various exams and get admission into the prestigious colleges.
