CAT 2016 Paper Analysis: Straight from the Exam Center!

The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2022 held on Sunday (Dec 4) was conducted smoothly across centres in 138 cities in the country. click4college caught up with some test takers freshly after the examination to get the CAT paper analysis 2022. 

CAT is a management admission test conducted every year by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) for admission to their post-graduate courses. CAT 2022 was conducted by IIM Bangalore on December 4 all over the country.

This year, Noida was an addition in the list of CAT exam centres, and we had the opportunity to visit and interact with some of the test takers to get insights into the CAT exam.

In a brief statement issued on Sunday (December 4) evening, Prof. Rajendra K. Bandi, Convener, CAT 2022, announced that 1.95 lakh candidates took the test. “While in 2015, 82% of the applicants took the test, this year the number swelled to 83.6%,” he said, adding that the test was conducted smoothly across centres in 138 cities in the country.

Students’ Reaction

We received a mixed reaction from candidates who appeared for CAT this year. While some found the paper easy, others thought the exam was difficult to some extent. Where, Naman Gupta, a test taker, said that the paper was doable and up to the expectations, Adil Akhtar found Quant section a bit lengthy. Yash Verma believed CAT 2022 was very much similar to CAT 2015 and the passages were short and easy to read. If compared to the expectations of CAT 2022, the paper was not that tough, but the Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning section was as hard as  a rock.

CAT 2022 Changes

No major changes were noticed in CAT 2022 paper. The marking scheme and the number of questions were pretty much the same and according to the expectation. A single change was noticed in the number of options in each MCQ question, it was increased from four to five.

CAT is a management entrance test conducted every year for admissions in the management programmes offered at 20 IIMs and around 100 B-schools across India. IIM Bangalore has conducted CAT 2022 exam and will be taking care of CAT results 2022. CAT exam 2022 was conducted in 135 cities all over the country for 232,434 applicants. This time, aspirants who want to make it to the Indian Institute of Management (IIMS) are highest in the last seven years. Candidates were given an option their test city according to the convenience while making CAT registration.

It was 180 minutes, i.e. three hours paper having a large number of descriptive type questions. A basic on-screen calculator was also provided for computation.

CAT 2022 Results

The CAT 2022 results will be declared in the first week of January 2022. Following the announcement of CAT results 2022, qualified candidates would be able to apply for admission in the popular management colleges of the country.

Expected CAT 2022 Cut-offs

The increase in the number of IIMs in India has increased the number of seats and eventually the chances of qualified candidates securing a seat in IIMs. The CAT exam score, overall percentile, the sectional CAT cut-off along with WAT/PI performance play a major role for candidates seeking admission in various IIMs and other management institutes.

To get MBA admission in the IIMs, students have to keep in mind that a balanced CAT high percentile is required as the sectional CAT cutoff would also play a major role during the selection process.
