CAT 2016 Applications Highest in 7 years with More Women Applicants

The Common Admission Test (CAT), which is conducted for admission to Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other top B-schools in India, has received the highest number of applications in 7 years with around 2,32,434 applicants this year as compared to last year’s 2,18,664. The last date for applications was extended by 5 days from 22nd September, originally.

Rajendra K Bandi, the convenor of CAT 2022 said that from CAT 2010 to CAT 2022, this year it has received the highest number of candidates. The percentage of the female candidates has increased this year by 1% as compared to last year. The total increase in applications this year is 14,000 as compared to last year, and half of them are female candidates, and that is a positive sign. He also added that the increase of female candidates is more than male candidates.

Bandi also said that applicants with physical disability have increased from 901 to 938 this year. In this category as well, while the male candidates are still in majority, the female candidates have increased from 14.76% to 17.48%.

Bandi further said that in the category of physical disability, the male candidates are more than 80%. More female candidates in this category need to be encouraged.
