Robotics is one of the relatively new and upcoming fields that is said to have caught the attention of a lot of people recently. The field is all about designing, developing and maintenance of robots. Robots are nothing but machines that are useful in various aspects such as manufacturing, research, transportation, safety, mass production of goods etc.

Robotics is a dynamic field involving the design, functional use and maintenance of robots. Robots help increase the efficiency of companies in terms of the output they produce in a significant manner. Apart from making the impossible possible, robots can carry out tasks that are considered dangerous and unachievable in a given period of time. As our country is becoming more and more familiar with the advances in technology and computer sciences, the field of robotics is gaining popularity at a wider level.

While planning a career in robotics in India, interested aspirants can either take up courses in disciplines that will help them take up professions such as robotics technicians or robotics engineers. The difference between the two is as follows:

  • Robotics Technicians hold a 2 year associate degree in robot technology or a corresponding field
  • Robotic Engineers hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering

It is interesting to note that robotics engineering is also considered as a sub-field of mechanical engineering.

For admission to an undergraduate degree, a student must have passed 10+2 examination from a recognized board with maths, physics and biology as the main subjects. In order to obtain a seat in the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), students have to additionally appear for the JEE Mains and Advanced entrance exams.
