Career Prospects after Beauty Courses

Beauty courses are a feasible option for many students and working professionals who want  to be ‘on their own’. Training providers like VLCC Institute offer long and short-term courses in cosmetology, beauty culture, hair designing, make-up and spa therapy.

Shahnaz Husain’s International Institute of Beauty, on the other hand, conducts courses in hair, make-up, facials, ayurveda and yoga. L’Oreal Academy and Pivot Point Academy train students in hair science and styling, among other areas.


The courses are designed to equip student with overall knowledge, which has to be supplemented with enough practical experience. Most institutes like VLCC have a theory-practical ratio as 20:80. Shahnaz Husain, head of the International Institute of Beauty, says, "the real world is beyond books and we teach basic etiquette, how to attend interviews, body language, business management and presentation skills and holistic wellness solutions through personal grooming, panch karma, ayurveda and yoga."

The options after completion of such a course are many. Apart from setting up one’s own salon, a student of beauty from a reputed institute can develop into a therapist, an image consultant for multi-national companies and share their knowledge by being part of the faculty of other beauty training institutes, says Vandana Talwar, Head, VLCC Institute, Delhi.


The courses require complete commitment and also sometimes, it is difficult to manage time for the ones who are working, but keeping an eye on what the future holds, many who have gone in for such a course, find that it’s worth it all.
