Building upon their successful campaign in FSAE Italy, SRIJAN, the official student formula racing team of Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra once again brought laurels to their college as they finished 3rd in the first of its kind Rule Book qualifying test for Formula Student India, stamping their entry into the competition.
To enter the elite group of 44 teams out of the numerous registrations it was mandatory to have cleared this test and the team succeeded with flying colours.
These top 44 chosen teams of budding engineers from all across India will now compete with their cars at the main event where they will be evaluated on a number performance and marketability parameters. The concept behind Formula Student is that a fictional manufacturing company has contracted a student design team to develop a small Formula-style race car.
Since its inception in 1978, Formula Student has expanded in countries like Australia, Italy, Germany, Japan, USA and UK. SRIJAN is a team of 28 individuals, which designs and manufactures Formula style car to participate in Formula Student events. The team has already participated successfully in FS UK (2007), FSAE Italy 2013 and SU.PRA SAE 2012 and 2011.
This event, which has been ranked as the best student level competition by topuniversities.com, is being organized in India for the first time and is scheduled to be held in the month of January in 2015.
The team from BIT has already completed its technical design and had begun work on the manufacturing front now. The bulk of manufacturing work will be done by the students themselves utilizing the workshop facilities of BIT, Mesra.
