The Institute of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) is the national apex professional body of Electronics & Telecommunication and Computer & IT Professionals and conducts three exams for various courses at Graduate, Diploma and Post-Graduate level. The Graduateship exam of the institute is known as the AMIETE (degree level), while the diploma level exam is known as DIPETE/ DipETE. The post graduation level course is known as Advanced Level Course in Computer Science (ALCCS).
The exam of the IETS is recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India for employment under the central government under appropriate posts. After passing out of AMIETE and DIPETE can work with the government or private agencies or choose to study further. The AMIETE exams are held twice every year, once in June and then again in December. The notification for the AMIETE exam in June 2012 was out in February 2012, while the AIMETE exam December 2012 will be out sometime in August 2012.

Eligibility Criteria for AMIETE 2012
- At least 16 years of age
- Passed 10 + 2 or an equivalent exam with Physics & Maths from a recognized Board
- Possess qualification of any 3 year Diploma course in Engineering / Technology with subjects of Maths and Physics to 10+2 level and a working experience in relevant field.
- Pursuing higher education with Physics/ Electricals/ Electronics/ Computer Science Engineering or a Diploma course
Accreditation of AMIETE 2012
AMIETE exam is recognized by the Government of India and UPSC for superior posts & services, in state governments and by a large number of universities/ institutions for higher education within India.
Application Procedure for AMIETE 2012
Candidate can obtain the prospectus with the form and sample question papers by depositing an amount Rs. 250 at an IETE exam centre or from the Secretary General at the head office mentioned below.
Note: Students must specify the stream (ET, CS or IT) and course (AMIETE or DiplETE) when demanding Prospectus.
Exam Format of AMIETE2012
Candidates should expect questions in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of Class 12. The pattern will be set in objective type with four options. Duration of exam is 3 hours. AMIETE examination is divided in two Sections with 20 theory papers and a project work. Each Section is divided in two parts - Part-I and Part-II.
Exam Centres of AMIETE
The AMIETE 2012 entrance exams will be held in Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Dharwad, Gulbarga, Hyderabad, Kochi, Mysore, Palakkad, Thiruvananthapuram, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Warangal and many others. International exam centres include Abu-Dhabi and Kathmandu.

Other Important Facts about AMIETE 2012
- A candidate is required to enroll himself/herself as a student member before he/she becomes eligible for appearing in AMIETE examination, which is on or before 31st August and 28/29th February
- The student membership will be valid for 10 consecutive examinations from the date of enrollment. Thereafter, the students will have to take a re-admission in case they fail to pass the first time.
- A student is required to complete AMIETE Examination within 2 enrolment periods from the date of initial enrollment.
