State Government of Gujarat prepared a common engineering admission list for the students of all boards including Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board and CBSE earlier this year. The decision was taken by the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC), Gujarat in order to normalize the marks to bring all students’ results on same platform since there were students from more than one board.
Instead of easing out the process the decision has invoked protest and has been challenged in the high court which has invalidated the method adopted by ACPC. According to an official from state education department, the ranks of 17, 000 students in the merit list will be adversely affected and they may have to change their preferred courses and colleges.
Around 54, 000 students have already taken admission in different engineering colleges in Gujarat will get hampered. Their ranks might fall considerably if a new merit list is prepared according to the order of Gujarat High Court.
