Applicants Rush to Register Online for Admissions to St Stephen’s

As many as 28,000 aspirants have registered to apply at St Stephen’s College, the hefty figure reflecting the surging number of applications received by Delhi University.

 

 

“The students who register online usually complete their applications by the last day. We end applications on June 19 and are expecting many more students to complete the process by then. We are getting a number of calls from aspirants and parents who want to clear doubts about the form. We think we will surpass last year’s number, though it depends completely on the application pattern in the next two days,” said Karen Gabriel, media coordinator, St Stephen’s College.

 

According to Gabriel, the mostsought after course this year so far is Economics with 4,600 students applying for it. The second most popular course is English with 4,340 applicants followed by Math with 2,800 applicants.

 

Last year, the college received 25,000 applications for 10 courses. This year, the number of courses has come down to eight as the varsity has discontinued BA (Programme) and BSc Physical Sciences (Programme). The number of seats, however, remains the same.

 

The application process at the college is separate from that at DU. All aspirants are supposed to apply online and there are no physical forms. Even those students who want to apply for the sports category and hostel accommodation have to apply online.

 

Students who meet the cut-off will be required to give interviews. The interview board quizzes students on the subjects they want to opt for.

This year, the college has asked students to write an essay about themselves. The college has introduced this new feature in their application form this year to know their candidates better, especially for the interview round.
