Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Delhi (AUD) will be holding its second Annual Convocation on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 10.30 am (Venue: AUD auditorium) at Kashmere Gate.
Shri. Jairam Ramesh, Union Minister for Rural Development will deliver the convocation address and The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri. Najeeb Jung will preside over the function.
A total of 1156 students are currently enrolled across 34 programmes, including 7 UG programmes, 15 PG programmes, one PG Diploma programme, 05 M. Phil programmes and 06 PhD programmes offered by the 9 schools of AUD. Out of the 243 graduates this year, 39 are of Undergraduate programmes and 204 Postgraduate programmes including 2 PG Diploma holders. These cut across various disciplines including Development Studies, Environment and Development, Gender Studies and Psychosocial Clinical Studies, Social Science & Humanities, apart from Economics, Sociology, Psychology, History and English.
AUD, which was conceptualised as a unitary university focusing on higher learning in Social Sciences and Humanities, was established by the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi through an Act of Legislature in 2007 and started to operate from August 2008. The first five years of AUD’s life have seen exponential growth and exploration of new areas of knowledge, particularly in the interdisciplinary spaces, new models of curriculum, instruction and assessment, concurrent appointments of faculty and innovative mechanisms of student support.
Drawing inspiration from Dr Ambedkar’s vision of bridging equality and social justice with excellence, AUD’s mission has been to create sustainable and effective linkages between access and success in higher education by imbibing an institutional culture characterised by humanism, non-hierarchical and collegial functioning, team work and creativity.
