Anna University, which was expected to publish the rank list of all the 521 affiliated engineering colleges on Monday, has postponed the release.
The publication of the rank list has been deferred on the grounds that the university had not received a copy of the high court order.
According to a senior official, only after getting a copy of the court order the university can decide how the list should be released.
The Madras High Court on Friday directed the university to publish the rank list of engineering colleges affiliated to it based on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL).
An applicant’s father filed a PIL saying that several colleges are misleading students with dubious advertisements claiming that they have all the facilities and the required approval.
According to the high court, the publication of the list will help students and parents in making informed decisions when the counseling begins on June 21, 2013, reports a leading daily.
Meanwhile, the decision to release the rank list has been criticized by some private colleges, which say that other aspects like infrastructure and faculty should also be taken under consideration while preparing the list apart from the marks.
