With its eighth batch just passing out, it was time for University Institute of Engineering and Technology to welcome back its Alumni for their first ever reunion. On June 1, 2013, after months of planning the Alumni Affairs Office was set to host the reunion at Alumni House, Punjab University. With its proximity to the UIET campus, the venue itself was nostalgic for people who had made Punjab University their home for 4 years.
The stage was set as old friends gathered, embracing their long lost days that they had left behind in the race to the summit. The faculty of UIET was also present to hear the stories of their old students, of how they had nurtured the skills passed on to them. “It is a great initiative taken up by the college to reunite its Alumni in a very organized way. I just hope the spirit doesn’t die”, said an alumnus of the 2008 batch who was very happy to see his old friends and teachers.
Different committees of UIET had set up their stalls at the venue for alumni to guide them and appreciate their work. “It is nice to see the Technical Committee here. They are doing a fantastic job and I would love to visit the campus one day and mentor their work”, said an alumnus of the 2011 batch who was a part of the Technical Committee during his stay at the Campus.
Professor Dr. Renu Vig, the director of UIET addressed the alumni, the faculty and the students present at the reunion and talked about the importance of an institution’s alumni for its growth and progress. With this she welcomed the alumni back to the campus of Punjab University which holds a special place in the hearts of all those who were once a part of it. Next on the stage was Dr. Rajesh Madan who is in-charge of the faculty team for Alumni Relations. He talked about how the reunion was planned with the help of the Alumni Affairs Office which includes the 13 member Student Team for Alumni Relations (STAR).
The Alumni of the 2006, 2007 and 2008 batch were felicitated at the reunion by being presented a memorabilia as a token of the importance of alumni in day-to-day college affairs. The Alumni Affairs Office had in-advance asked one alumnus from each pass out batch to share his/her story at the reunion. This story session gathered the attention of all the attendees as the speakers talked about their experiences after UIET and how college life played an important role in it.
As the reunion attendees had dinner, they knew the time had come to say goodbye, goodbye till we meet again, to their friends who they got another chance to interact with. On their way back, they collected mementoes from stalls put up especially for the nostalgic ones. This is how the alumni of UIET, Chandigarh got their long awaited reunion.
This was only the first of many more to come as STARs have ignited the torch and the Alumni would take it forward.
