The All India Postgraduate Medical Entrance Test (AIPGME) was supposed to have been replaced by NEET-PG.
However, the Supreme Court on July 18 had stated that holding one entrance exam for medicine, dentistry and PG medical courses was not possible.
In a majority 2-1 verdict, the SC held that the National Eligibility-cum Entrance Test (NEET) violated the rights of state and private institutions. Hence, it quashed the Medical Council of India’s (MCI) notification about holding a common entrance test for admission to MBBS, BDS and post-graduate courses in all medical colleges.
Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will continue to hold the undergraduate exam for 15 per cent of UG seats.
