Delhi University’s common entrance exam for admission to its undergraduate level programme i.e. B.A English (Hon) is finding acceptance with more and more DU colleges. Compared to the 12 colleges of DU that began using CATE (Common Aptitude Test for English) last year, this year in 2011 there are 17 colleges that would be admitting students in their English (Hon) programme through this common entrance exam:

Facts about CATE 2011:
- The participating colleges will be giving 70% weightage to the CATE score and 30% to your Board performance.
- Unlike previous years when the forms were only available at Arts Faculty, this year the forms will be sold in all the 17 colleges that are part of the test.
- You need to submit only one CATE application form to register for the test even if you are applying to more than one college for B.A.(Honours) English.
- The pattern of CATE 2011 will be as follows: The question paper will have two parts. One with multiple choice questions (MCQs) and the other with descriptive-answer type questions. You need to attempt both sections in one sitting. The answers for the MCQs need to be marked in an OMR sheet. Your descriptive answers (Part 2) answer sheet will be evaluated ONLY if you clear the MCQ cut-off.
Eligibility Criteria:
Following are the prerequisites described by the Delhi University for appearing for CATE 2011
- You must have passed Higher Secondary Certificate Examination (10+2) or its equivalent, from any recognized state/national Board.
- You are required to have passed the qualifying examination with not less than 60% marks in the subject of English.
- You must have also obtained minimum of 60% marks in aggregate, in the best of four subjects. ( Your best of four subjects may include: Marks in English + any 3 academic subjects (including languages) OR Marks in English + any 2 academic subjects (including languages) + 1 vocational subject)
- If you are waiting for your class 12th results you’re still eligible to apply for this programme.
