Admission Notification: B.Tech, NIIT University 2012-2013

The B.Tech programme at NU uses the university’s core principles of industry-linked, technology-based, research-driven and seamless as a foundation of its programme design. Through a transformational process involving courses, R&D project, industry practice and other co-curricular components, the programme seeks to create exceptional leaders trained to operate in tomorrow’s complex technology-oriented business environment.

The B.Tech programme at NU demands and encourages the students to explore and connect with the multiple dimensions of today’s business environment.

The 4-year programme comprises 8 semesters in which the courses are categorised as:

• Programme Core (Humanities, Social Sciences & Management (to gain interdisciplinary knowledge)
• Professional Core (to gain proficiency in domain area)
• Mathematics & Sciences (for analytical ability)
• Professional Electives (for specialization in an industry-specific domain)
• R&D Project (to inculcate a strong research bent of mind)
• Open Elective (for student to orient himself towards his professional interests)
• Industry Practice (to build linkage with Industry-work or Industry-oriented research, seamlessness with the world of work)
• The first four semesters are devoted to theoretical and hands-on laboratory training of Core and Mathematics & Sciences courses. This is followed by advanced courses spread over the next three semesters. Students undergo the Industry Practice (IP) working on real-life projects in the eighth semester leading to the completion of the programme. Thus, the B.Tech programme is the sum total of education measures undertaken to develop holistic responsible individuals for life-long learning. The overwhelming emphasis, therefore, is to ensure that all students ‘learn to learn’.

Industry Practice (IP)

IP conducted onsite in the organization provides students with an opportunity to gain experience working in interdisciplinary teams on real-life. The duration of IP is six months (i.e. one semester). During IP, students are guided by a dedicated faculty mentor and a mentor from the organization. Besides technical skills, this semester helps build strong professional skills including planning, problem-solving, time management, written and verbal communication, cost management, team-work, meeting deadlines, initiative, confidence to complete a task, integrity and customer communication.

NU offers the following streams in B.Tech:

• Biotechnology (BT)
• Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)
• Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE)

B.Tech – Biotechnology (BT)

The Biotechnology programme at NU is driven by the development of theoretical knowledge base as well as the business needs of the Biotechnology sector. It comprises a flexible model where the course content continuously evolves with the rapid changes occurring in the Biotechnology industry. The courses provide competence in biotechnology through training in the areas of microbiology, biochemistry, analytical techniques, molecular biology and bioinformatics. The major thrust of the programme is towards integration of theoretical knowledge with a hands-on practical experience.

B.Tech – Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)

The programme in Computer Science and Engineering is designed to provide students an overview of computing, an understanding of the concepts, principles and skills in their application and extension and practical experience in applied computing. The programme emphasizes the fundamental principles underlying computing and helps develop an understanding of the engineering considerations involved in computing system design, implementation and usage. The course provides a background in the basic mathematics of computing – logic, sets, relations and grammars.

B.Tech – Electronic and Communication Engineering (ECE)

The four-year B.Tech Programme in Electronics & Communication Engineering aims to create professionals who can engineer large, relevant and robust electronics & communications systems. The programme provides students with a strong background in engineering mathematics and sciences followed by an exposure to the fundamentals of electrical and electronics engineering and communications. The programme also provides mastery over advanced topics such as VLSI Design, Digital Signal Processing, and Embedded Systems to enable students straddle the overlapping fields of Electronics and Computers, and become experts in Computer Programming, Mobile Programming and Software Systems.

NIIT University invites applications for B.Tech programmes in computer science engineering, biotechnology and electronics engineering and telecommunications engineering.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission to NIIT University:

• A candidate should have scored an aggregate of 60% marks or equivalent in Class 12 from any board in India. 

             or

• If the applicant has an aggregate score of 60% to 70% in Class 10 and Class 12 board examination respectively, then the applicant should have appeared for AIEEE and should submit the AIEEE rank/ SAT scores/ IIT-JEE rank.

• Shortlisted candidates have to go through a personal counseling interaction designed to assess the candidate’s English communication skills, interests and hobbies, degree of self-awareness and out of the box thinking and reason for the choice of stream.
