Are we aiming to build world class institutions? Do we want to be counted amongst the world’s best? What research strategy do we need to adopt to get there? These were some of the questions that were raised and aimed to be answered by an audience of 25 and five speakers – national and international at the recently held seminar on Accelerating Research Excellence at New Delhi on the 23rd of September, 2011.

Prof. Barry Halliwell, Deputy Vice President (Research & Technology) at the National University of Singapore spoke about the university’s research that helped NUS gain recognition as a world class university - driving research in areas that are not flavor of the month, promoting interdisciplinarity and recognizing the need to drive holistic research for sustainability.

National speakers, Dr. Jagdish Arora, Director-INFLIBNET (Information & Library Network) and Prof. H A Ranganath spoke about the positive impact of e-resources that access to information has had on research output and the concerns and challenges faced while assessing a University’s performance.

Guiding the government both in investments in research and also policy framework based on scientific data was the subject of Dr. Norman Braveman’s presentation. He has had a 28 year long association with the National Institutes of Health, USA.

Elsevier, highly respected for its content based solutions now offers analytical tools and a whole suite of Research performance planning solutions. While Mr. Goki Ishikawa, Director, SciVal (Global) showcased these solutions that helped the research manager to strategise, Mr. Lim Kok Keng, Managing Director (Asia Pacififc-Academic & Government) welcomed the participants of the seminar.

In all 25 select participants from across research institutions in the academic and government segments participated at the seminar held at the very grand ballroom of Leela Kempinski Palace.
