On Friday, May 17, 2013, University Institute of Engineering and Technology organized an event that would make a difference in the curriculum and affairs on the campus.
As technology changes every second, there is a need to modify technical education to be at par with the world. Keeping this in mind, the Alumni Affairs Office gave the idea for this one of a kind conference for UIET.
To get advice on curriculum and syllabus revision, industry experts and academic heads from leading organizations and institutions were invited. Also a few members of UIET Alumni were welcomed back for their inputs on student affairs since they have been in the same shoes in their times.
The Conference turned out to be a great success as it was something new and promised to make a difference, a bold one. The conference was divided into various sessions:
• Panel Discussion: Do UIET students match the moment? In this round, a UIET student’s capabilities were judged and a student’s qualifications were matched with the outside world’s requirement
• Faculty Becoming Students: This session was taken up by an Alumna of the 2012 batch, Mandisha Nagpal who for one day only decided to let teachers learn about a student’s expectations from his/her teacher
• Student affairs: This is where the best points from students were put up for discussion. Their views on a changing curriculum were asked for over the social media and the response was really enthusiastic.
• Branch wise syllabi revision: All faculty, industry experts and alumnus were segregated branch wise and were sent into different rooms for assessing, discussing and amending the respective syllabus of the particular branch.
Though a Conference on Institutional Reforms was primarily thought to be an Alumni-Faculty Day, but it later on turned out to be an event of interest to all individuals of the institution. The Alumni Affairs Office hopes that the college authorities will make way for such an event annually for making the current students aware of the ever changing world of ‘Technology’.
