A National Institute of Technology (NIT) will soon open campus in Mizoram, according to a source of Mizoram Board of Governors. The source added that talks are on between the Chairman of NIT, K Ravi Kumar and State Chief Minister Pu Lal Thanhawla.
Ravi Kumar had visited the State to attend NIT’s first Board of Governors meeting, scheduled in Aizawl. The venue for the first meeting of the NIT Mizoram Board of Governors is the culmination of the proposal put forward by the Mizoram Chief Minister to the Central Government earlier. The first batch of the NIT Mizoram havs already started its academic session in Nagpur and the next session is scheduled to be held in Aizawl sometime in the month of July-August 2011. The agenda for the scheduled meeting will be determination of the temporary site for the session and all other important issues besides a permanent site.
NIT Mizoram functions under the aegis of the Central Government, hence all the eight members of the Board of Governors and two Special Invitees are also appointed by the Union HRD Ministry.
All members of the board except its Chairman K Ravi Kumar have reached Aizawl. The other members includes Prof TS Sampath Kumar, IIT, Madras; VR Jamdar, Member, Prof AG Despande, VNIT, Nagpur; Prof DJ Katyayan, VNIT, Nagpur; Dr HT Thorat, VNIT, Nagpur; Dr BM Ganveer, VNIT, and Pi Esther Lal Ruatkimi, Secretary, Higher & Technical Education. The two Special Invitees are Dr HL Malsawma and Daniel Hauhnar.
