I admit I took a hiatus from posting regular updates on the blog and this inactivity has pretty much rendered me guilty and contrite. Just like you freshers, I too was running from pillar to post to get into a top notch DU College. This anxiety was exacerbated by the ECA results that were announced at the eleventh hour. Not that I’m complaining, in fact thanks to ECA, I finally got into one of the most revered colleges of Delhi - Hindu College!

However, I still share the same level of excitement, stress and fear that you all do. Will I be able to make new friends? Will I be able to carve my own identity in college? Will I be able to transform myself into who I really want to be? Will I be able to take part in a plethora of co-curricular activities besides academics? The list of questions might never end.

I did a little research asking my sister and other college seniors about what to expect in college, and hereby I compile a list of people we all are most likely to encounter. And yes, we too belong to one of these categories as well.

1. The Know-It-All

This person is bound to be the most intellectual one in the college, let alone in your class! They can solve mathematical puzzles faster than a calculator and can integrate algebraic functions in their sleep. They persistently ask questions in the middle of the lecture and disappear right after it ends, probably to the library and predictably end up acing all the college examinations.  You know you would need their help to strengthen your weak understanding of mathematical concepts, so maintain a close liaison with them.

2. The Overachiever

This person is involved in almost every society the college has to offer. Be it debate, dramatic or the editorial board, you will find them everywhere. They have a fierce loyalty to the college and hence their passion to excel in every society to fetch awards is evident. Sometimes you might wonder that unlike us mere mortals, they are secretly granted 42 hours in a day. They stay in the college for an unusually long time, rehearsing for the next big competition. So if you want an entry into any society, you know whom to approach.

3. The Social Butterfly

This is the person that has the longest list of contacts in their phone. They know everyone you have ever met or will probably be meeting in the future. Getting work done is not a hassle for this person thanks to their plethora of friends and acquaintances. They possess all the latest college gossip and befriending them might lead you to a host of different people and places. They are invited to every party and everyone knows them. You would never know how they manage having so many friends, but they somehow do.

4. The Jock

Sort of a belligerent sports enthusiast, this person can lift weights and dumbbells all day. They can be somewhat overbearing and other than the sports team; no one really enjoys going close to them, primarily because everyone else is scared of this person. However, being a friend of this guy really proves worthwhile because you know that way nobody can pick on you. You know you would be safe because people would be scared that confronting you would lead them to him. And EVERYOBODY is afraid of approaching him.

5. The Shy One

This is the one person whose voice you might never hear in your entire college life because they don’t really talk a lot. This person has 2-3 close friends with whom they hang out. They don’t step out of their comfort zone often and don’t mind being the unrecognizable one. You might cross their path in the hallway or meet them in the college canteen, but that would be it. This person is content with a few friends and that is how they want it to be.

6. The Hipster

This person is the “coolest one” on the college campus. From their dressing sense to the way they talk- everything about them is “hip”. It seems like everything they do is cool and people yearn to be like them. Though this person is slightly detached or blasé towards most of the things, they still manage to look cool. They do not follow the mainstream trends or style, in fact they do the exact opposite and that is what makes them awesome. They listen to obscure bands whose names you might have never heard and watch movies whose names you can’t even pronounce. This person is hands down the coolest kid on campus.
