From 4900 students last year, the number of students who have opted to take the computer-based AIEEE 2012 (All India Engineering Entrance Exam) has jumped to a whopping 1.96 lakh this year.
This might be because of CBSE's decision to encourage more students to take the computer-based AIEEE: it did not keep any centres for the paper-pencil (offline) test in 22 major cities in India which included Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru & Kolkata. (AIEEE to be online at 22 centres next year)
AIEEE is one of the largest entrance exams conducted in India by the CBSE. This year has seen a 16 % rise in the number of applicants (from 11.13 lakh applications in 2011 to 13 lakh in 2012.)
