Government of Punjab is all set to promote vocational training among the youth of state for which the state government has recently drafted “Skill Development Policy” which aims to create a capacity for training of 15 Million skilled workers by 2022.

This was state by Director, Technical Education & Industrial Training, Mr. B. Purushartha during the inaugural ceremony of Oracle Academy at the campus of Chandigarh University, Gharuan. The State policy has been formulated by Department of Technical Education, Punjab in line with National Skill Development Policy for which the State Government has already signed MoU with CII to conduct skill gap study and analysis, which would held the chamber to create mechanism to fill gaps and cater to both the organized and unorganized sectors, added B.Purushartha.

Emphasizing on Employability as the sole criteria for the promotion of Technical & Vocational training to the students, B.Purushartha said that the Department of Technical Education (DTE), Punjab has already notified appraisal policy for Principals of Government Polytechnic Colleges and ITI’s in the state giving maximum weight age to Placements of students studying in their institutions. Terming the step to setup Oracle Academy at Chandigarh University completely in liaison with the Punjab Government’s “Skill Development Policy” as the students pursuing their degrees at University would be provided with value addition certification and skills which are currently required by the Industry.

Giving details about the Oracle Academy at Chandigarh University, Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chancellor, Chandigarh University said that the joint partnership with Oracle will help the students gain industry-relevant skills prior to entering the IT workforce. Besides providing Technology in the form of establishing R&D Labs and Oracle Hosted Lab Environments, open source technology labs at the campus of Chandigarh University, Oracle will arrange Guest Lectures by eminent Industry experts, faculty development programs, access to Oracle E-learning resources, active participation in developing course curriculum of Chandigarh University Computer Science and Application Courses and a hub to join Oracle certification courses for students and faculty, added Sandhu.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. R.S.Bawa, Vice-Chancellor, Chandigarh University said that “We take pride in our ability to provide academic programmes that promote innovation, technology skills development, and academic research and working with the Oracle Academy will support us in this endeavour. The addition of the Oracle Academy curriculum will help foster students’ knowledge and interest in computer science and help ensure our students receive research training, so that they are prepared to join the global IT workforce, Dr. Bawa added.
