Jaipuria Institute of Management Indore organized a panel discussion on September 17, 2013.
Topic of the discussion was “Nurturing talent in Higher Education: Role of Mentoring”. Distinguished panel members were Dr. Sumer Singh, director & Professor at Acropolis Institute of Technology and Research, Mr.MM Rao, Vice President (Personnel and Administration) at Craftsman Automation Pvt. Ltd, Mr. Mukesh Vyas, General Manager, HR/IR at Mahindra & Mahindra, Dr. J K Mishra Professor and Academics Dean, Dr. Nitin Merh, Dean (Student affairs) at Jaipuria Indore along with the faculties and Research heads from different B-Schools.
Prof. Aditi Naidu extended warm welcome to the Panel members as well as other faculty members from different Institutes on behalf of the institute followed by Prof. Charu Dubey introducing the institute to all the members present in the auditorium.
Dr. J K Mishra initiated on panel discussion about “Role of Mentoring”. He extended warm welcome to the panel members and expressed the need and importance of Mentoring in a student’s life.
Mr. MM Rao stated key factors on mentor-mentee relationship by saying that today, Industries need people who can be productive and give results in short time because of the fast changing patterns of life and therefore mentor plays an important role to induct and orient them in a best possible manner.
Mr. Mukesh Vyas further added on with the most recent research which states that when CEO’s were asked about their success mantra, 90% have mentioned Mentoring as one of the factors. He shared his own experience as a Mentee in the past when he was a student and after entering into the industry that how Mentoring helped him to move ahead in his Professional life.
Mr. Sumer Singh said that the first step in Mentoring process is “to build trust”. He further added that there should be three mentors assigned for growth of mentee. One from the faculty, one from industry and one from his/her own family and also stated that faculty mentor should be assigned to the students prior to his joining and after taking the admission in the institute.
Many questions were asked by respected faculty members and discussion went on very interactively. J K Mishra stated the three main pillars of Mentor-Mentee relationship- importance of nurturing creativity to evolve natural talent, understanding role model of the student and frame activities accordingly and being frank with the Mentee.
Dr.Nitin Merh concluded the event by mentioning the importance of goal settings of MentorMentee relationship, empathy and finally extending special vote of thanks to the Panel and faculty members for being a part of the needful discussion.
