Maharashtra Government has expressed keen interest in replacing JEE by MHT- CET. The government plans to withdraw itself from the joint entrance exam held by the centre for admission in state's engineering colleges.
Vinod Tawde, minister for higher and technical education feels that the Maharashtra common entrance test will help students from the remote areas get admission into engineering colleges. JEE is a very difficult exam with a vast syllabus and the coaching for the same costs about 2-3 lakhs. Hence, replacing JEE with MHT CET would make the lives of the engineering aspirants in Maharashtra easier.
This proposal would be put to practise from 2022, as the applications for JEE 2015 have already been filled. About one lakh candidates are said to benefit from the change.
"If the state conducts its own test then it will help the students from remote areas to come up for admissions. Private coaching centres charge around Rs 2.5 lakh to coach JEE students the CBSE syllabus.” quoted Vinod Tawde to a leading daily.
As informed by the minister, the parents and the private engineering colleges had asked for these changes, to ease of the engineering aspirants. The students find it difficult to focus on the XIIth Board exams and JEE simultaneously due to the difficulty level of the latter.
Unlike JEE Main, the state government gives 50 per cent to CET scores and 50 per cent to the scores of class XII for admissions.
