One of the oldest disciplines of University of Delhi, the Russian section of the Department of Slavonic and Finno-Ugrian Studies was started at initially started in 1946. The Department of Russian was established on 02.10.1946 on the initiative of the First Prime Minister of Independent India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The founder Head of this Department was Mr. V. Shibayev.

With introduction of courses in other languages the name of the department was changed to Department of Modern European Languages. On 29.12.1987 the Department of Modern European Languages was bifurcated and the Department of Slavic Studies came into existence. The Department of Slavic Studies was later renamed as Department of Slavonic & Finno-Ugrian Studies.

The Russian Language and Literature in the Contemporary Intercultural Context conference will be held on 16 and 17 February, 2012. The purpose of this conference is to popularise Russian language course offered in DU. 

 

Eligibility 

This is an open conference for international as well as Indian students, who have studied the language. Those interested in participating will need to submit abstracts on related themes of the conference.

The abstract should be written either in English or Russian and be sent to sfusconference2012@gmail.com by 30th December, 2011.

Abstracts submitted for acceptance should have the following information:

  • Title of the Research Paper
  • Name of Author/Co-Author
  • Name of the Institute/Organization/University
  • Contact Details i.e. Mobile/Landline Numbers/ E-mail Address

Font:  Times New Roman, Size: 12, Spacing: 1.5

 

Margins: Left:  1.5 inches, Right:  1.0 inches, Top: 1.25 inches, Bottom: 1.25 inches

Information

Registration Fees:  INR 250/- ($5 USD). Registration fees will be accepted on the spot at the conference site.

Students: Free

Official Language: English, Russian

 

Passport / Visa

  • All foreign delegates should obtain a valid visa from the Indian Embassy in their country.
  • On request, the conference organizers can be able to send official invitation to the foreign delegate for visa or other travel purposes.

Accommodation

The Conference Organizing Committee will provide boarding and lodging facilities to the invited participants for the day(s) of the conference.  Limited accommodation is available in the University Guest House on first-come first-served basis.

Reception

On specific request, the volunteers will receive the Delegates at the airport. Participants are requested to send their arrival and departure details in advance to the organising committee for necessary arrangements.

Weather

The best period visit Delhi is during the spring season, which starts from February. Generally, the temperature in Delhi around that time varies from 7 degrees Centigrade to 21 degrees Centigrade.

Please Note: A paid tour to Taj Mahal (Agra) and Pink City (Jaipur) on 18th & 19th February, 2012 for the conference delegates will be organized by the conference organising committee. The details (expenditure on transport and boarding/lodging etc.) of this tour will be communicated to the interested delegates on request.
