MAT or Management Aptitude Test is a national level entrance examination for admission to management courses across several colleges in India. MAT is conducted four times in a year, in the months of February, May, August and December. 
MAT exam is conducted by All India Management Association (AIMA) which is an apex body of management which has been organising a lot of management related activities and initiatives such as Distance Management Education, Management Development Programmes, Special Conferences, Research & Publications, Testing Services and Competitions. Centre for Management Services (CMS) is the special division of AIMA that undertakes testing and other management services.
AIMA (All India Management Association) conducts the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) that has been approved by the Ministry of HRD as a National Entrance Test. Candidates can choose to take either the Paper Based Test or the Computer Based Test.

MAT 2025 will be an objective type of test which will test the candidate’s capability in 5 areas i.e. data analysis, language, critical reasoning, mathematics and Indian current affairs.
MAT exam will be conducted on 21st September (PBT) and 28th September (CBT) respectively.
The result of MAT September 2025 is expected to be announced in the second week of October.

MAT 2026 Eligibility Criteria

According to AIMA norms, MAT eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • The minimum qualification taking MAT is graduation in any discipline from any recognised University or equivalent recognised degree.
  • A final year student in any undergraduate (i.e. B.A, B.Sc., B.Com., B.Tech., etc.) can also appear.
  • There is no age limit for taking MAT
  • Work Experience is not compulsory

MAT 2026 Application Details

  • Go to https://mat.aima.in to access the registration portal for the September 2025 session.
  • Create an account by providing your name, valid email address, mobile number, and a secure password. An OTP verification may be required.
  • Log in with your credentials and complete the form with personal details, educational qualifications, preferred test mode (PBT or CBT), and preferred exam dates.
  • Upload a recent passport-size photograph and signature in the prescribed format and size mentioned on the website.
  • Pay the applicable fee online via debit/credit card, net banking, or UPI. The fee varies depending on the number of exam modes you choose.
  • Choose up to 5 MBA/PGDM colleges to receive your MAT score.
  • Review all details carefully before submitting. After submission, download and save the confirmation page and payment receipt for future reference.

MAT 2026 Counselling/Interview

MAT September 2025 result will be declared by AIMA in the second week of September. Candidates can check the result on the official website of AIMA. Candidates will have to login to their student account for checking their result. MAT results will be published in the form of section wise score card. Marking for all the sections of MAT Exam 2025 will be given on that score card separately.

On the basis of MAT 2025 result, all the MAT participating colleges will determine and declare their individual MAT 2025 cutoff marks. Candidates who will get the minimum cutoff score will be called for the further admission rounds. Cutoffs are the minimum qualifying marks required for getting admission into MBA colleges accepting the MAT score. It will differ from college to college and also for categories of students. Candidates will be shortlisted for GD/PI rounds on the basis of their score secured in this MAT exam and clearing the cutoff scores.

Personal Interview will be the significant part of the MAT admission procedure and should be taken seriously. Candidates will be assessed on the basis of their thinking process, future goals, interpersonal skills etc.

MAT Counselling and selection procedure will differ from college to college. Colleges accepting MAT scores will declare the cutoff and will conduct the MAT selection procedure. It will include the personal interview, group discussion and writing ability test. Some of the colleges accepting MAT scores may conduct all the three rounds and some others may not. Most of the institutes give importance to WAT as they think, it is an easy way to judge the writing skills of the candidate.

The final admission list of the colleges will be declared on the basis of candidate’s performance in the entire MAT 2025 selection procedure.

MAT 2026 Exam Syllabus

Frequently Asked Questions

MAT is conducted four times in a year. The first exam session is held in February followed by the sessions in May, September and December. Candidates applying for MAT should be graduates in any discipline from any recognised University or equivalent recognised degree. Candidates in their final year of graduation (i.e. B.A, B.Sc., B.Com., B.Tech., etc. are also eligible to provisionally.

Usually, there is a minimum percentage requirement in graduation, which is different for different MIs/University. Candidates will have to view the prospectus of the MIs/University to see the minimum marks required for admission into the particular MI/University.

MAT is conducted both in offline and online format. Candidates can choose their mode of examination. The mode of the test is different for different centres. Hence candidates must check if their preferred mode of examination is available at the exam centre of their choice.

The number of participating MI’s is not constant and may vary. The number of MI’s keeps on changing from test to test. Every institute has a different admission criterion. All MIs participating in MAT are either AICTE, DEC approved; University affiliated College, University Department. For further information, candidates can contact the MIs /Universities. It is best advisable to go through the official brochure.

The validity of the MAT score for that particular session for most MI’s is one year.

It is advisable for the candidates to buy the prospectus of the MI’s he/she is applying to.

MAT is conducted in all major cities in the country and leading cities abroad. Candidates can go through the detailed list of centres for MAT. Paper Based Test and Computer Based Test have different centres. Each applicant can appear only for one date for the MAT.

There is no age bar. Job experience is not necessary.
