The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI) is an autonomous and not-for-profit Institute. It is sponsored by apex financial institutions - the IDBI Bank Ltd., IFCI Ltd., ICICI Bank Ltd. and State Bank of India (SBI). The Government of Gujarat pledged twenty-three acres of land on which stands the majestic and sprawling EDI campus.

To pursue its mission further, EDI has helped set up twelve state-level exclusive entrepreneurship development centres and institutes. One of the most satisfying achievements, however, was taking entrepreneurship to a large number of schools, colleges, science and technology institutions and management schools in several states by including entrepreneurship inputs in their curricula. In view of EDI's expertise in Entrepreneurship, the University Grants Commission appointed the EDI as an expert agency to develop curriculum on Entrepreneurship.

EDI's success led by its strong sense of commitment culminated in recognition of its achievements by the Government of India and various state governments. In the international arena, efforts to develop entrepreneurship by way of sharing resources and organising training programmes, have helped the EDI earn accolades and support from the World Bank, Commonwealth Secretariat, UNIDO, ILO, FNSt, British Council, Ford Foundation, European Union and several other renowned agencies.

The Institute has also successfully carried out the prestigious task assigned by the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India, to set up Entrepreneurship Development Centres in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam. The Institute is presently working towards creating ED Centres in Uzbekistan & Kazhakistan.

Academics and faculty at the institute!

The intensity of the academic rigour at EDII Ahmedabad is not one of those old wives' tales. The pedagogy is completely based on case studies, and these cases give the student an insight into management ideas involved in running a small grocery shop to a big corporate firm. They are challenging and daunting, and the decisions you are forced to make build or destroy corporate empires. They make you think, they make you sweat and they make you introspect. They prepare the student for the real world. It is not just the things you learn at EDII, which makes the difference, it is the way those things are taught. One day you will have all the time in the world and on another, you will find yourself with a short deadline for virtually impossible tasks, ranging from a dozen assignments to numberless quizzes. You are taught to survive in a realistic managerial atmosphere even when you are only learning what it takes to be a CEO one day. The faculty members at EDII are the very best in the country, and having handled the best minds in India every year through and through, they know how to keep us on our toes. Their research credentials are impeccable, and each faculty has his/her own approach to introducing management concepts, which makes everything all the more interesting.

Best b-school to study Entrepreneurship!

I am studying in current batch of EDII (PGDM-BE). By profession, I am a Chartered Accountant and by passion I am a cook and Entrepreneurship is a choice of career. EDII has been very instrumental in one year entrepreneurial journey. The institute has designed its curriculum, which would push you to think, make a move and deliver. If you do not have an idea, be rest assured you will be pushed to find one. It surely is not like a regular MBA college; it would take an extra mile to grind at this place but would prepare you to face the entrepreneure world. The institute has an extensive network and connections. You really want to become an entrepreneur, take the benefits associated with it. This is the right place for you. The alumni network also holds very strong and for any institute it is the foundation. Let's just say that EDII has a really strong foundation. You might wonder why then EDII has not been popular, it's not because it's an institutes fault it's because we as a society was not ready. Ever since the start-up world has taken off, this institute is gaining it's momentum. While joining even I was skeptical. However, the journey of a year has been really fruitful, in fact I owe my first funding achievement to this institute. If you are willing to work and perspire, the institutes will walk the journey with you. Also, I have had the privilege of having amazing classmates who have been very supportive rather than kill throat competition. At EDII, the simple motto is to grow together!
