Department of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Calicut is one of the first and oldest management institutes in South India to offer Management courses. It was established in 1972 and today, it is one of the largest teaching departments of the University on the main campus with about 110 post-graduate students and about 30 research scholars. The University aims to nurture excellence in education and research in its catchment areas of Northern Kerala, historically consigned to the periphery of Kerala’s academic map. With ‘Nirmaya Karmana Sree’ as it motto, the University has overcome challenges to emerge as the largest residential cum affiliating University in Kerala. The Department lays its emphasis on fostering quality human resource and promoting productive research that benefit both local communities and wider humanity.

Placement

The placement bureau of the Department has a good track of helping students find placements in various management organizations. The Calicut University Library, established in 1971 and later renamed after C.H.Mohammed Koya, ( the former Minister for Education, Government of Kerala ), is primarily concerned with the conservation and dissemination of knowledge to its users. It plays an important role in the provision of information to the academic community in the Malabar region. Institute is good but the industry exposure is low as compared to other institutes. Fee structure is very low. Talking about the infrastructure it is average but the fund for conducting various events need to be obtained by the students itself. As it is a student driven institute faculties supports for every student initiatives but all the technical and backend activities need to be done by the students alone.The flagship management meet Ascend is the main event of DCMS. Talking about the placement it is not satisfactory only few companies such as South Indian Bank, Federal Bank, ULTS, VKC, Vodafone, Hilite group, HDFC came there for campus recruitment in our batch.
