About Competence in Software Technology (CST) Exam 2012
Competence in Software Technology (CST) is an entrance exam conducted nationwide by Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Mumbai (formerly known as National Centre for Software Technology).
C-DAC is a scientific society of the Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology involved in Research and Development into the area of Software Technology.
CST 2012 is a multipurpose exam which tests your conceptual knowledge and practical skills. CST exam is conducted at different levels and your paper depends upon level selected by you.
Objectives of CST 2012
The main objective of CST exam is to provide standardised score for:
- Admission in recognised universities or institutions for post-graduate courses
- Employment in IT industry or C-DAC
- Admission in Post-graduate Diploma courses by C-DAC
- Project Fellowships by C-DAC
Eligibility for CST 2012
The eligibility criterion for CST 2012 is different for each level:
Eligibility for CST 2012 Level E and I
For CST 2012 Level E and I, you must have:
- Bachelor's degree in any subject
- Diploma in Engineering recognised by central or state government with a minimum of 3 years’ study after 10th or 2 years’ after 12th
- Any other qualification recognised by central or state government equivalent to Bachelor's degree
Eligibility for CST 2012 Level D
For CST 2012 Level D, you must have:
- B.Sc. degree in Computer Science or any equivalent Bachelor’s degree in the Computer science or IT
- Bachelor's degree in any subject and at least 6 months’ part-time training in software technology, comprising a minimum of 15 hours of work per week, covering basic computer concepts and computer programming in the C language
- Bachelor's degree in any subject with at least 3 months’ full-time training in software technology, comprising a minimum of 30 hours of work per week, covering basic computer concepts and computer programming in the C language
- Bachelor’s degree in any subject with courses on computers, equivalent to the training in software technology covering basic computer concepts and computer programming in the C language as part of your degree requirement. You are required to submit your attested mark lists as a proof that you have done at least a one-semester computer course.
- Completed a 3-year, full-time Diploma course in Computer Science or Computer Engineering recognised by Central or State government after the 10th.
Eligibility for CST 2012 Level G
For CST 2012 Level G, you must have:
- Four year Bachelor’s or Higher Degree in Engineering in Computer Science / Computer Engineering / Information Technology / Electronics / Telecommunication / Electrical / Instrumentation
- MCA, M.Sc. (Comp Sci.), M.Sc. (IT), MCS, MCM or M.Tech in Computer Science / Computer Engineering / Information Technology / Electronics / Telecommunication / Electrical / Instrumentation
- PGDST or FPGDST or APGDST from C-DAC, Mumbai or Electronics City, Bangalore
- Any degree equivalent to a BE in Computer Science or IT
You are eligible to apply for C-DAC CST 2012 if you are in final year of degree or diploma programme.
Application Procedure of CST 2012
- You can apply for CST 2012 by filling an online application form or downloading CST 2012 application form from official website of C-DAC (http://www.cdacmumbai.in).
- You should write your name, level of examination and registration number on backside of your Demand Draft, if you are applying online.
- You can also obtain application form for CST 2012 from C-DAC centres at Electronics City - Bengaluru, Kharghar - Navi Mumbai and Juhu - Mumbai.
- The crossed DD should be drawn in favour of C-DAC, Mumbai payable at Mumbai.

The CST 2012 will be conducted at Ahmedabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Allahabad, Coimbatore, Goa, Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati, Kolkata, Patna, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune and Thane.
