• Candidates seeking admission to M.Tech. Programme of the Institute should have Minimum 55% or CGPA/CPI of 5.5 in 10 point scale (without rounding
• off) in the qualifying degree for UR (Unreserved)/OBC candidates.
• Minimum 50% or CGPA/CPI of 5.0 in 10 point scale (without rounding off) in the qualifying degree for SC/ST candidates.
• Executives / Academicians / supervisors with one year post qualification experience from reputed industrial / R&D, Academic Institute, public sector, Government, Semi-Government and reputed private sector organisations or Entrepreneurs / Self Employed persons are desirable.

Selection Process

Applicant shall have to appear for written test and /or interview to be conducted by Indian School of Mines at Kolkata. The syllabus for the written test and /or interview is as per GATE Examination. Final selection shall be based on aggregate scores of written test, Interview and Experience. The sanctioned strength for the program is mentioned below for each department with specializations and the reservation policy of Government of India meant for higher educational institutions is strictly adhered to.

A Bachelor’s degree after (10+2) in any discipline from a recognized university with a least 50% marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of candidates belonging to SC,ST and PwD (Differently Abled Categories*)]. For Honours graduates the aggregate will include marks of both Honours and Pass Papers. Candidates appearing for the final bachelor’s degree/ equivalent qualification examination can also apply.

Admission Process

To apply for admission to MBA program to ISM, applicants should have a valid CAT-2016 score. Application form and Fees have to be deposited online by visiting the IIT (ISM) website. 

Candidates short-listed on the basis of CAT-2016 scores will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview for final selection. The sanctioned strength for the MBA Program is 62 and the reservation policy of Government of India meant for higher educational institutions is strictly adhered to. Candidates applying for reservation under OBC (NonCreamy layer) category, should submit a valid OBC certificate issued by competent authority
issued after January 1, 2017 and as per the given format.

The selection of Junior Research Fellow is through an all India examination and interview. ISM also allow direct entry of M.Sc. Tech. & M.Sc. students into Ph.D programme. Under this scheme, top 20% of M.Sc. Tech. / M.Sc. students of respective Departments who obtain an OGPA of 8.5 and above, can apply for direct admission in Ph.D programme, with the limit that each Department can have up to a maximum of 10 seats for all the course offered by that department taken together.

B.Sc. Degree with Geology as Honours/Major/Main/Equivalent subject and any two subsidiary subjects from Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

B.Sc. Degree with Physcis as Honours/Major/Main/Equivalent Physics subject, Mathematics as a subsidiary subject for two years/four semesters and another subsidiary subject from Chemistry, Geology, Electronics and Statistics for one year/two semesters.

B.Sc. Degree with Physics as Honours/Major/Main/Physics Equivalent subject, Mathematics as a compulsory subsidiary subject for one year/two semesters, or Mathematics as Honours/Major/Main/Equivalent subject from Physics as a subsidiary subject and another subsidiary subject from Chemistry, Geology, Statistics, Electronics, Computer Science, Economics and Geography, Environment and Water Management.

B.Sc. Degree with Chemistry as Honours/Major/Main/Chemistry/Equivalent subject, Mathematics as a compulsory subsidiary subject for one year/two semester and another subsidiary from Physics, Geology, Zoology and Botany.

B.Sc Degree with Mathematics as Honours/Major/Main/Mathematics Equivalent subject and two subsidiary subjects from Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Statistics, Electronics and Computer Science.

The candidate should have passed 10+2 or equivalnet from recognized university.
