The Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy, also known as SASTRA University, is a private university located in the town of Thirumalaisamudram, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, India. SASTRA University started its journey in 1948 as Shanmugha College of Engineering. In 2001, it was renamed as Shanmugha Arts, Science and Technology & Research Academy.
SASTRA University was ranked 31A in “National Institute Ranking Framework” (NIRF) 2016 in the Engineering category. By “National Assessment and Accreditation Council” (NAAC), the University was credited with GRADE ‘A’. Wipro Technologies honored the University as most “Trusted Academic Partner” for qualifying standards of excellence in the framework. M/s Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. credited the University with ‘A’ grade (Highest) putting in the elite company of the institutes. In addition, MBA programme is credited separately by TCS.
The University offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses in Engineering, Science, Education, Management and Arts. Admission to all programmes is strictly based on merit only. Tentatively in the last week of March, forms are available online as well as offline on the official website of the University.

University provides a scope of scholarship in Hostel for students with a good CGPA and high attendance (more than 90%) throughout the academic year. In addition, Dean’s merit list is also checked in which according to CGPA, the candidate in top 3% of the university are offered two-fifth of the semester fees. And candidates in top 3% to 10% in the university, are offered one-fifth of the semester fees.
1. B.Tech/ Integrated M.Tech Programmes
A candidate must be passed 10+2 examination with Mathematics & Physics as compulsory subjects with either Chemistry/ Computer Science/ Bio-Technology with minimum aggregate of 60%.
Admission to this course will be based on the 10+2 merit for all categories.
2. M.Tech Programmes
Admission to P.G. Programmes is based on the overall percentage of marks secured in the qualifying UG/PG degree. Preference is given to GATE score holders.
3. M.B.A Prgramme
Any recognized bachelor’s degree of minimum three years.
4. M.C.A Programme
Any recognized bachelor’s degree of minimum three years with mathematics as a subject. Candidates with B.Sc degree in computer science, IT, Information Science or B.C.A. with a minimum 65% in major subjects can apply for this programme.

Engineering Admission Procedure
Admission to B.Tech./ 5 Year Integrated M.Tech Programme

Admission to B.Tech/5-year Integrated M.Tech programme is conducted under two streams. All the applicants will be eligible for both the streams and there’s no need to submit two separate application forms. One application form will be considered for both the streams
-
Stream 1 is based on JEE (Main) score and +2 marks for 70% seats
-
Stream 2 is based on +2 marks for 30% of the seats
-
Applicants under stream 1 will be admitted to 70% of the seats basis of JEE (Main) scores and normalized +2 marks
-
The weightage of JEE Main score and normalized +2 aggregate will be taken together as per the weightage and applicants will be ranked based on the resultant combined. This combined score determines SASTRA Rank

Applicants under stream 2 will be admitted based on their normalized aggregate +2 or its equivalent marks. This is for the 30% of the total seats.

To get candidates from different examining authorities and boards on the same scale of comparison, +2 marks are normalized. A merit list is drawn based on the normalized percentage for making admission for 30% of the total seats

Applicants are allowed to attend counselling for stream 2 even if they are admitted under stream 1 and have the option to change the branch.

For PG programmes the admissions are made on the basis of the scores in qualifying UG/PG degree programme. Candidates who’ve qualified GATE will be given preference for Engineering programme and for MBA students will decent CAT/XAT/AIMAT/CMAT scores are given preference.

For Law, admissions will be based on CLAT scores and +2 aggregate taken in ratio of 25% & 75% respectively

For all other degree programmes in Science, Arts, Commerce, Education, etc. admission will be based on the qualifying exam marks

Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology and Research Academy, popularly known as SASTRA University is a privately held university located in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. It has been accredited Grade A by NAAC.
