National Law University
National Law School Bangalore was established in 1987 in order to rejuvenate legal education in India. Since then, a number of national law schools have been established in different states. In an attempt to promote legal education, the Bar Council of India visits and inspects Universities/Law colleges in the country and lays down standards in consultation with the Universities in India and the State Bar Councils. Admission to these law schools in India is on the basis of the highly competitive exam called CLAT I.e. common law admission test. Minimum Eligibility Criteria for admission

A candidate for admission to the B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Degree Course shall have:
a) passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an examination equivalent thereto securing in the first attempt, not less than 50% (45% in the case of SC / ST candidates and persons with disability) in the aggregate, and
b) not completed 20 years of age as on 1st July of the year of admission.
In the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST and persons with disability, the maximum age limit shall be 22 years.
Those who do not clear the qualifying examination with the requisite marks are not eligible for admission. Candidates whose Statement of marks of the qualifying examination is not available at the time of formal interviews, are also not eligible for admission.
The University reserves the right to cancel the admission of any candidate in accordance with the Rules.

Eligibility Criteria for appearing in CLAT-2017 for PG Programme:
The candidates must have Minimum percentage of marks in qualifying examination (i.e. LL.B./Five-Year Integrated LL.B. (Hons.)/ any other equivalent exam) as under:
(i) Fifty five percent (55%) marks in case of candidates belonging to Unreserved / OBC/Specially Abled Persons (SAP) and other categories, andย
(ii) Fifty percent (50%) marks in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category,ย
(b) The candidate must have passed / appeared in the final semester/final year examination of the qualifying examination on the date of his/her admission.ย
(c) In case of candidate who has appeared in the qualifying examination, he/she may submit his/her final result of qualifying examination within the time frame prescribed by the respective University / Institute. Till then such candidates may be given provisional admission.ย
(d) In case of equal marks, the breaking of tie shall be by procedure and order as under:ย

(e) No upper age limit is prescribed for appearing in CLAT-2017

Admission Process
CLAT (Common Law Entrance Exam) is conducted for admission to 18 National Law Schools except National Law University, Delhi which conducts a seperate exam called AILET i.e All India Law Entrance Test. The colleges are alotted on the basis of the scores obtained in the respective exams.ย

Each year clat for undergraduate courses is conducted in the month of May. The test will carry a maximum of 200 marks with 200 questions, awarded one mark each. For each wrong answer 0.25 marks will be deducted. All questions will be multiple choice questions. The duration of the exam shall be 2 hours. The topic wise marks distribution is given as follows:ย

Ailet forย post graduateย courses is held in the month of May. The test comprises of 100 questions of 1 mark each and one essay of 50 marks from the prescribed course. The subject areas are Law of Contracts, Law of Torts, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law and Legal Theory. All questions are multiple choice questions. The duration of the exam shall be 1 hour 30 minutes.
Ph.D. Programme
Procedure for admissionย
a. Every year before the commencement of the admission process, the university will notify the number of seats available for Ph.D. programme. Seats will be decided keeping in view the availability of teachers for guiding Ph.D. Scholars. However, the vice chancellor on the recommendation of the doctoral committee may decrease/increase the number of seats.
b. ย A written test of qualifying nature will be conducted by the university. However, it will nit carry any weightage of marks in the final selection.
c. For submission of research proposal, the candidate shall secure 50% marks (40% in case of SC/ST) in the written test. The qualified candidates will have to submit their research proposal for scrutiny. ย The university has the right to keep the seats vacant if the numbers of candidates with minimum cut off marks are not available.
d. The candidates who have qualified UGC NET/JRF, SLET, and M.Phil will be asked to submit their research proposal along scrutiny. They are exempted from taking the admission test.
e.The Scrutiny Committee constituted by the vice-chancellor will shortlist the candidates after examining their research proposals for giving presentation before the Doctoral Committee.ย

National Law University Admission Process
Eligibility Criteria UG Admission

All aspirants (except those applying the Foreign Nationals category) should appear for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) and selection will be solely on the basis of this.
-
Candidates should have scored at least 40% of the marks in the AILET (30% for SC/ ST candidates).
-
In order to be eligible for appearing for AILET, candidates should have passed their 10+2 examination and scored a minimum of 50% marks. Also, candidates appearing for 10+2 examinations in the year of AILET may also apply, provided they meet the above mentioned eligibility criteria at the time of admission.
Eligibility Criteria PG Admission

To be eligible for admission to the One year โ LL. M. Programme, a candidate should have passed the LL. B. or its equivalent from a recognized University with not less than 55% marks in aggregate (50% in case of reserved categories, i.e., SC/ ST and Persons with Disabilities).

The admission of Foreign Nationals shall be made on the basis of:

Academic record of LL. B. or its equivalent Degree recognized by the UGC/ Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with not less than 55% marks or equivalent grade.

Assessment of necessary communication skills in written & spoken English along with performance at the interview in terms of aptitude and capacity.
PG Admission Procedure

Admission to One year LL. M. Programme shall be on the basis of merit obtained in the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) conducted every year by the University. The candidate shall secure a minimum of 50% marks in the Written Test to be eligible for admission. In case of SC/ ST candidates, such minimum score shall be 40%.

Aspirants awaiting the results of the qualifying examination can appear for the Entrance Test subject to the condition that they provide proof of passing such qualifying examination at the time of admission.
National Law University Doctorate Admission
Ph. D. Programme
National Law University also offers courses at the Doctorate Level wherein the admission to the Ph. D. Programme is a two-stage process and is strictly based on merit.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for admission to the doctoral degree, an aspirant shall have:

A Masterโs Degree or a professional degree equivalent to the Masterโs degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% aggregate marks or its equivalent grade from a recognized university or approved institution, or
-
Obtained a degree in Law and Masterโs Degree with M. Phil. in Social Sciences or Humanities form any recognized University with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade, or
-
For the above two categories, a relaxation of 5% of marks or an equivalent grade will be given to candidates belonging to the SC/ ST/ OBC (non- creamy layer)/ Differently- abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

Candidates possessing a Degree in law and Masterโs Degree considered equivalent to M. Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited as per UGC regulations shall be eligible for admission to the Ph. D. Programme.

Judge of any State High Court in India with 3 Yearsโ experience or Judge of Supreme Court of India.

National Law University PG Admission
LL. M. Programme
National Law University also provides courses at the Post Graduate level. Master of Law (LL. M.) is a one year duration course offered by the NLU admission to which is on the basis of an Entrance Test held by the University itself.

5 seats are allocated for Admission of Foreign National candidates possessing the Citizenship of a country other than India. Foreign Nationals are exempted from taking the Admission Test.
The vacant seats from Foreign Nationals shall be filled in from the General Category candidates in order of the merit.
National Law University UG Admission
Five Year Integrated B. A. LL. B. (Hons.) Programme
B. A. LL. B. (Hons.) is an integrated five years programme comprising of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law courses. Candidates desirous of taking admission to this course are required to fulfill the eligibility criteria as prescribed by the University.

The University admits 80 students every year to the B. A. LL. B. (Hons.) Programme.

10 seats are reserved for Foreign Nationals.

From the remaining 70 seats, 15% are reserved for Scheduled Castes, 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe and 3% for Persons with Disabilities. Apart from these, 3 seats are supernumerary as follows:
