Nalanda University
Nalanda University is located in the town of Rajgir, in the northern Indian state of Bihar. It is a Central University that came into being on November 25, 2010, by a Special Act of the Indian Parliament and has been designated as an βInstitution of National Importanceβ. The University presently operates out of an interim Campus in Rajgir. The Administrative Offices of the University are located at the interim campus in Rajgir.
The University presently offers Post Graduate programs in the School of Historical Studies, the School of Ecology and Environment Studies and the School of Buddhist Studies, Philosophy and Comparative Religions.
The University has established collaborations with several institutions abroad as well as with East Asia Summit partners. An inter-governmental Memorandum of Understanding came into effect at the 8th East Asia Summit in October 2013. Till date, 17 countries have signed the MoU namely Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, South Korea, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, New Zealand and Portugal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Lao People's Democratic Republic and Brunei Darussalam.

For Indian students

The minimum requirement is three years Bachelorβs degree (10+2+3) wherein the candidate must have secured 55% marks from any Indian University recognized by UGC/AICTE.

|
There is a minimum requirement of a Bachelorβs Degree with minimum 15 years of prior studies i.e. in 10+2+3 pattern with a GPA of at least 2.2 or above on a 4 point scale or equivalent grade if another grade point scale is used.

For all Applicants: Proficiency in the English Language
|
There is a minimum requirement for all applicants to demonstrate a high level of competence in the English language, as all courses will be conducted in English. All Students must be able to demonstrate that they are able to communicate in English at a level suitable to the Graduate Programs.

Nalanda University requires all applicants to deliver a high level of competence in the English Language. Anyone of the following would be accepted as evidence of competency in English:
β’ Graduates from Non-Indian Universities need to have scores of one of the accepted English Language Tests (TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, PTE, STEP)
β’ In absence of any such score, a certificate from the qualifying university which states that the medium of undergraduate study of the candidate had been English.
β’ The undergraduate examinationβs medium of instruction and examination of Indian Students must be English. (a certificate to this effect is needed).

The Nalanda University offers the following facilities to its students including a library with Wi-Fi connectivity and locker facilities for the students, Cafeteria, Medical Facilities, sports facilities like yoga and games at various Residence Halls and an International Convention Centre with an art gallery, film theatre, seminar rooms and a cafeteria.
Nalanda University Admission Process
Nalanda University is not liable to accept the candidature of all those who have applied for the courses of the University. Therefore, it is not mandatory that all the applicants, who have filled in the Application Form would be invited for an interview. All the completely filled in Application forms, would be primarily screened for their correctness and adherence to the specified regulations and passed on to a selected committee comprising of Nominees of Vice Chancellor. Applications without proper academic/ professional references from referees specified by the candidate in the Application Form will not be accepted.
For the purpose of short listing the Application Forms, the Committee members will evaluate the candidates on the basis of parameters such as academics, statement of purpose, graded written work, etc., as furnished by the applicant.
Personal Interview
Interviews of the shortlisted candidates for the first two rounds will be conducted in person at the University campus in Rajgir. Candidates are also given the option of appearing for the interview over Skype. Shortlisted candidates will receive an invitation to appear for the interview by e-mail. On receiving the e-mail, the candidate should respond within the specified deadline and also their will to appear for the interview in person or over Skype.
The interview will be conducted by a panel comprising of not less than two members, who will be nominated by the vice Chancellor. The final short listing after the interview round will be done on the basis of parameters like communication skills, confidence level of the candidate, general awareness, subject interest, etc.

The University will also allot some candidates to the wait list, which the University will use at its own discretion.

The decision of the Selection Committee shall be final and binding in regard of requirement for a qualitative assessment.

Nalanda University Post Graduate Admission
Nalanda University offers Post Graduate programmes in three schools presently- The School of Historical Studies, The School of Ecology and Environment Studies and the School of Buddhist Studies, Philosophy and Comparative Religions. The details of these programmes are given below.
Masters Programme in the School of Historical Studies (SHS)
The school offers an M. A. degree that focuses on global and comparative history. The School is dedicated to reframing and rethinking the interconnections between time, memory and history in Asian and non- Asian contexts. Faculty use a variety of methodologies and disciplinary backgrounds of history including anthropology, sociology, archaeology, religious studies, philosophy, economic history, political science, philology, visual studies and art history which help students develop critical understandings of global histories, cultural- political histories, economic histories, intellectual histories, oral and visual histories, art histories and religious histories.
Masters Programmes in the School of Ecology and Environment Studies (SE & ES)
The school offers two-year M. A. and M. Sc. degree programmes based on the Under Graduate degree obtained by the student. The course is designed for students coming from disparate backgrounds in social science, humanities, engineering and natural sciences. It addresses pressing local, regional and global environmental problems of the current times through education, research, collaborations and policy recommendations. The present focus areas of the school include Human Ecology, Hydrology, Disaster Management, Food and Agriculture, Climate Change and Energy Studies.
Masters Programme in the School of Buddhist Studies, Philosophy and Comparative Religions
The School offers an M. A. degree that focuses on academic studies of Buddhist and other religious traditions with a scholastic rigour. It looks at Buddhist traditions in their wider socio- historical- cultural contexts. In addition to emphasis on Buddhism, it also focuses on broader aspects like Methodology and Theory that establish Religious Studies as separate disciplines. This includes exploring Buddhism in different regions of Asia; the dynamics of the spread of Buddhist ideas, art and literature, archaeology of key Buddhist sites; the study of primary texts, inscriptions and art forms and the comparison and interactions between various religious and philosophical traditions of Asia. Students are introduced to an interdisciplinary approach in which they read literary and philosophical texts, take part in archaeological training and are introduced to a variety of methodological approaches that range from ethnological to philological. The School also emphasizes the use of primary languages and requires students to study at least one Classical Buddhist language (Sanskrit, Pali or Tibetan) or another source language.

Nalanda University Admissions 2017
Nalanda University, an age old University is located in Rajgir, near Nalanda in the Eastern state of Bihar. The University is governed by the Nalanda University Act 2010 and its Statutes and Ordinances. Established in the year 2010, Nalanda is a stand alone international university onlike any other established in the country.
Nalanda has been known to be a seat of knowledge for over eight centuries in the ancient kingdom of Magadha. It was a centre of excellence not only for Ancient Indian wisdom, Buddhist studies and philosophy but for Medicine and Mathematics, Astronomy and Logic as well. In the year 2006, eight hundred years after the destruction of the Nalanda, the former President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam ideated the revival of the Nalanda University. The University is now exclusively a Post Graduate and Doctoral School.
