Jadavpur University

Jadavpur University is a internationally recognised and is a Urban University with Global perspective. The universisity is dedicated in creating leaders who will aim towards creating a just world. It does not lays emphasis only on teaching and reasearch of International Quality, but it also provides societal services for the benefit of rural and urban populations. Moreover,  the extension programmes and several other courses provided by the university gives way to opportunities for the drop-outs at different levels to continue their education. The objective is that they should be able to earn a living and derive the impersonal pleasure of learning at the same time. The University also contributes in evolving modes of digital distance education as part of the National Mission on Education. 

Jadavpur University offers Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), M Phil and PhD programmes in various streams which include: Science, Engineering, Architecture, Education, Humanities and Social Science. The admission in the UG courses is is initiated after the declaration of +2 results. Post Graduate admissions are done in the period of April-May and PhD enrollment is done twice in a year : May-June and December-January. Admission to all the Postgraduate courses at Jadavpur University is done through entrance test conducted by individual departments. However, for the courses that are offered by Faculty Council of Engineering and Technology, GATE score is mandatory. For those who have not taken GATE will then have to appear in the entrance test conducted by the department. At UG level, admission to courses offered by Faculty Council of Engineering and Technology is done on the basis of WEBJEE scores which is then followed by counselling. Candidates opting to pursue any UG level course from Faculty Council of Arts have to appear in the entrance test conducted by different departments. For admission to courses offered by Faculty Council of Science merit in previous qualifying exam is the sole criteria in UG as well as in PG courses.

Every department in the University has two or more teachers who act as a mentor to students joining the University. They provide aid, counselling and assitance to the freshers. In addition to that, there is a counselling cell that helps students.
