The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) has been established by the govt of Assam by means of enactment of the National school of law and Judicial Academy, Assam Act, 2009 (Assam Act No. XXV of 2009). The word 'School' is being substituted by the word 'University' as per the National school of law and Judicial Academy, Assam(Amendment) Act, 2011. The Hon'ble magistrate of Gauhati high court is the Chancellor of the University. NLUA promotes and makes available modern legal education and analysis facilities to students and scholars drawn from across the country, together with the North East, hailing from totally different socio-economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds.

Placement
The NLUJA students have to undergo internships for a period of Four Weeks at the end of each semester during the summer and winter breaks respectively at various law firms, Courts, NGOs, Statutory Commissions and at various other places to help them get an idea about the applicability of law in different avenues. The University has prepared a broad scheme of Internship Training for different classes. The students of the first year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) FYIC are required to join NGOs. The students of the second year undergo training with lawyers and judges at the district level. The third year students are required to go for training at the High Courts and the Honβble Supreme Court. The University hopes to send the future batches of students for training with corporate houses, leading law firms, Departments of the centre and the state as well as the chambers of senior lawyers.

Infrastructures
The University has state-of-the art infrastructure in its present campus. The Administrative Offices, the Class-Rooms, the Conference Hall, the Moot Court Hall, the Dining Hall are being well furnished with all modern equipments. The campus and the hostels are Wi-Fi enabled with each Girlβs Hostel and Boyβs Hostel having separate Multipurpose Gymnasiums. The Library is a gateway to quality education and research in the field of law, social sciences and humanities. In its library, the University has a collection of more than nine thousand printed titles and more than two hundred e-books covering law, social sciences and humanities. Over the years, the library has procured various Law Journals, both printed and electronic. LexisNexis, Manupatra, Westlaw, SCC Online, Cambridge Book Online, JSTOR, Hein Online, Elgar Online are one of the many online databases which have been made available to facilitate quality research of students, visiting research scholars and faculty members. During Semester Breaks, the students, scholars and faculty have been provided with remote access to these library resources.
Classroom
All the classrooms are well furnished with all the modern facilities.
Laboratory
The Computer Centre of the National Law University, Assam has been set up as a technical annexure of the University to cater as a gateway to the Information Super Highway. Since inception, this centre has been providing support for the various IT related services for the University.
Infrastructure
The Centre is equipped with a couple of High-end blade servers including HP Proliant G6 and IBM SYSTEM X servers which house the University Intranet Portal,
Library
The NLU Assam Library endeavors to facilitate the legal society by providing right information to right users at the right time. It is on a rapid path of growth and development since its inception in 2009, with the establishment of the National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam. The library has undergone an expeditious growth in terms of its resources, staffs and infrastructures as time progressed.Β
