Private University Estd. 1952 NIRF #1 (Medical) 2024National Institute of Technology is a higher education technology institute located at Dimapur in Nagaland. It is one of the 30th NIT. It was set up by the Govt. of Indian in 2009, as part of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan for imparting technical education in the state of Nagaland. NIT Silchar has provided initial mentorship to NIT Nagaland for the initial two years of its establishement.
The first batch of NIT Nagaland studies at NIT Silchar for two years and then the NIT Nagaland has shifted to its home state, Nagaland in September 2012. NIT Nagaland is a federally funded technical university established by an Act of the Indian Parliament.
NIT Nagaland is managed by the NIT Nagaland Society registered under the Societies Act. The institute is fully funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India.
On October 13, 2012, former Union minister of human resource development, communication and information technology Kapil Sibal inaugurated the NIT Nagaland at Chumukedima. The NIT foundation laying function was attended by chief minister neiphiu Rio, Lok Sabha member CL Ruala, top officials of the state government and the union HRD ministry.

Placement
Training and Placement Cell strives to provide the best possible training and placement opportunities for the students. Students of NIT Nagaland are receiving summer training in reputed Industries and PSUs as well as in top level academic institutes like IITs. As a result of constant endeavour by the members of Training and Placement Cell under the guidance of honourable Director, Institute has succeeded in obtaining overwhelming response from various recruiters last year. Amidst many challenges in various fronts, about 70% of students from first batch were able to receive placement in various reputed Industries like National Instruments, Polaris, Verizon, Aricent, IBM and many more.Training and Placement Cell looks forward for stronger collaboration with Industries so that deserving students can get the best platform to nurture their talents and improve their credibility for better placement prospects. Currently T&P Cell is working on framing out newer policies to strengthen Industry - Institute relationship so as to attract more and more number of companies.

The Institute has a satellite branch of State Bank of India (SBI) Chumukedima with ATM facilities to cater to the banking needs of students, faculty and staff.

The Institute has a medical centre with Doctors visitation on rotation and facilities in line of a District Primary Health Centre.
